Kyle Busch powered past Patrick Laperle on a lap 112 restart in Saturday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway to claim his first PASS North Super Late Model race win. Cassius Clark came up to challenge Busch late in the race but settled for second with Lonnie Sommerville third.

Busch and Laperle led the 34 car field to the green and the first 92 laps ran caution free with Laperle out front. Busch and Joey Pole were never more than a couple of car lengths away.

Steve Legendre showed his muscle on the night’s first restart, taking a shot at the top three but Busch’s three wide move on the bottom gave him second and he raced hard under Laperle, looking for the lead. The pair ran side by side for five laps until Laperle took control once again. Cassius Clark used the restart to race by Legendre for third and Pole was shuffled back to fourth.

Legendre was fading and on lap 112 his flat right front brought out the second caution, setting up an opportunity for Busch to challenge Laperle. Busch got the job done, and Joey Pole got by Clark for third.

Clark raced past and Laperle three laps later and tried to mount a challenge on Busch. The third and final caution of the night flew on lap 143, giving Clark one last shot at victory.

Clark gave it his all but Busch kept the point and raced home under the checkers to claim his first PASS driver’s win by a margin of .676 seconds. Lonnie Sommerviille put on a charge to beat Laperle for third and Johnny Clark snuck by Pole to claim a top five spot with three to go.

Busch joins Lonnie Sommerville and Gary Smith as a first time PASS North race winner in 2011. Busch already has a PASS South car owner’s Championship to his credit.  That title came in 2008 with Alex Haase at the wheel.

Seventeen of the thirty four starters completed all 150 laps in a race that took just under an hour to complete. Patrick Laperle posted the fastest race lap, a 15.601 at 86.533 MPH.

Busch, Laperle and Donnie Whitten won the qualifiers.

PASS North takes a weekend off before traveling to the “Action Track of the East”, Seekonk (MA) Speedway on Saturday August 6.  For more info, visit www.proallstarsseries.com.
