Hemric Scores ARCA/CRA JEGS 100 Win At Gresham

Daniel Hemric got the phone call a couple of weeks ago asking him to step into the Carswell Motorsports Ford at Gresham Motorsports Park while regular driver Ryan Blaney ran a Camping World Truck Series event.

Hemric made the most of his opportunity by scoring the victory in the JEGS 100 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA.

Hemric found his way around early leader Stephen Nasse, and then held off Kyle Benjamin to pick up the victory.

“It’s unreal to get these Carswell Motorsports guys back in victory lane,” said Hemric after the win.  The team last visited GMP’s victory lane with driver Justin Wakefield in the 2010 World Crown 300.

Hemric put on a World Crown performance himself in scoring the victory.

The event proved to be competitive right off the start, as Senoia, GA’s Bubba Pollard took an early lead, with Nasse moving to second and Hemric in third.

The front four would run nose to tail for the opening 24 laps.  On lap 25, Nasse tapped Pollard, then moved to the inside looking for the lead.  Nasse would move to the front spot, a position he would hold for most of the next 40 laps.

The only caution of the night flew on lap 29, when Dalton Grindle spun off turn four.  Nasse would retake the lead, with Pollard in second.

Meanwhile, Benjamin and Hemric would move forward as Pollard slowly faded back into the top five.

On lap 63 Hemric moved to the inside of Nasse off turn four, but stumbled himself, handing the lead back to Nasse.  Four laps later, Nasse would slip off turn two, allowing Hemric to slip by on the backstretch.

Benjamin would also make his way around Nasse for second.  But there was no catching Hemric, who powered away to the victory.

Benjamin finished second, with Nasse in third.  John Hunter Nemechek finished fourth, and Russell Fleeman was fifth.

Pollard, Donnie Wilson, David Quackenbush, Logan Boyett, and Paul Kelley rounded out the top five.

In other action, Aaron Calvert charged to the lead on lap six of the Mini-Stock feature, and managed to win despite dropping a cylinder late.

Anthony Burgess took the early lead, but would surrender the top spot on lap six.  As Calvert moved away, Spanky Hicks and Scotty Beck did battle for second.  As Calvert scored the victory, Scotty Beck beat out Trace Embry in a photo finish for second.  Hicks finished fourth, with Allen Cantrell in fifth.

In the Sportsman feature, Jeff Chadwick drove into victory lane after scoring the victory.

Jackie Daniel jumped out front, but soon came under fire from Chadwick.  The caution flew on lap 17 when Nathaniel “Boo” Carlisle spun off turn two.

On the restart, Daniel and Chadwick again went by it, with Chadwick coming away with the lead.

The caution would fly again on lap 19, when Carlisle again spun in turn two.

Chadwick and Daniel went at it again on the restart, but Daniel saw his chance at the victory go away when he spun in turn two with four laps remaining.

Chadwick would drive away for ht win on the restart.  Daniel recovered for second, with Michael Mobley in third and Matthew Widener in fourth.

Meanwhile, Mike Childers scored the Renegade feature win, which was run along with the Sportsmen.  Greg Jarrett finished second, with Ron Hubbard in third, and Carlisle in fourth.

After being out of a race truck since 2010, Curt Brit drove a truck he formerly owned into victory lane in the Truck feature.

Kevin Vassar jumped out to an early lead, with Aaron Calvert in second.  Britt would quickly charge to second, and would move around Vassar for the lead on lap nine.

The first caution of the event fell on lap 23, when Ronnie Wehunt tagged Emilee Riley, sending Riley’s truck spinning off the fourth turn.

On the restart, Britt moved back to the lead, with Matt Vassar moving to second place, and Calvert in third.

Caution would fly again on lap 30, when Riley spun in turn two, while Kevin Vassar spun while trying to miss Riley’s truck.  Both were able to drive away.

Britt jumped back out front on the restart, with Matt Vassar moving to second.  That’s right where they would stay, with D.J. Vanderlay, Calvert, and Wehunt rounding out the top five.

After being out of an Outlaw Late Model since November, Todd Vanderford made his return in dominating fashion in the division’s 50 lap feature.

Matthew Wragg would jump out front early, with Vanderford giving chase, and Jason Bates moving to third.

The caution would fly on lap 28 when Brian Hardman spun in turn two.  As the cars moved around the track under caution, Wragg went to the garage area with issues, putting him out of the event.

Vanderford would inherit the lead, and would drive away for the victory.  Bates finished second, with Lee Langford in third, Hardman in fourth, and David Murphy in fifth.
