The points battle for the $10,000 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship continues to tighten up after Week 21 competition, as Chase Washington of Houlka, MS has closed to within one point of Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA at the top of the points list.

Washington took his tenth win of the season on Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO to net two points driving the Jerry Inmon Racing Special.  Trosclair was also planning on making the trip to Malden Speedway, but his tow rig broke down, and rainouts on Saturday night and Sunday night prevented Trosclair from attempting to net points.

Trosclair leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 794 points represented by ten 50 points wins, two 49 point second-place finishes, two 48 point third-place finishes and 100 Bonus Points making up his best 14 week point total in the J. Dunning Sandblasting and Paint Special.

Washington is in the second spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 793 points represented by eight 50 point wins, five 49 point second-place finishes, one 48 point third-place finish, and 100 Bonus Points making up his best 14 week point total.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 competition, but remains in the third spot with 790 points, just four points out of the lead in the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star.  Shaw will be trying to net on a 47, and a 50 point win could tie him with Washington for the second spot.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS salvaged a rough Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS with a third-place effort in the Palasini Farms Special to net one point and bring his fourth-place total in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings to 789 points.  Palasini crashed in his heat race, made repairs, and had to charge from the 12th starting spot.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN finished second on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN to net two points driving the Brian King Roofing Stinger, and is still in the Championship hunt.  King is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 788 points.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS did not compete in Week 21 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition, but remains sixth in the standings with 784 points driving the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star.  Lee is only ten points out of first place with six weeks remaining in the 2012 season.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS moved up one spot to the seventh position in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase with his second win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway.  Barrett drove the Custom Spraying GRT to a clean sweep by setting a new track record in qualifying, and then leading the field wire-to-wire.  Barrett now has 775 points.

Neither Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS nor Bret Holmes of Munford, AL competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 competition, but are still eighth and ninth respectively in the point standings.  Arnold has 773 points in the Billy Riels Racing/Reynolds Motorsports GRT, and Holmes has 762 points in the Holmes II Excavating Special.

The battle for the tenth and final points fund-paying position in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings is now a tie between Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS in the Robison Electric GRT and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS in the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star.  Both drivers have 753 points.

Harrison finished ninth on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway and failed to net any points, while Jordan finished second at Greenville Speedway to net eight points.  In the tie-breaker scenario, Harrison would have the advantage with two wins, while Jordan is still looking for his first win of the season.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 action, John Cobb of Loudon, TN drove the NAPA Auto Parts Special to his second win of the season on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway.  Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY took his four win of the season on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN.

Joey Thomas of Seale, AL picked up his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL driving the BTR/Scorpion Race Cars Special.  Kelly Walker of Moultrie, GA drove the Windy Pond Farms Special to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA.

Mother Nature claimed five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 events.  Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS was rained out on Friday night, and will have double-feature races on Friday night, and on September 7.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 race at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS was rained out on Saturday night, and the $1,000-to-win race has been rescheduled for September 22.  Saturday night races at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL were also rained out, as was the Sunday night race at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Defending and four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is back on top of the point standings after Barrett gave them their 26th win of the season.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL is in the second spot with 25 wins on the season.  Glisson gave third-place Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV their tenth win of the season.

Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN is fourth in the point standings with six wins on the season and Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fifth with four wins.  TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
