Numerous drag racers seized the opportunity to build up early points leads during week six of Friday Night Drags at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Buddy Patrick, driving the crowd-pleasing 1948 Willis Panel Wagon, was among them, winning the Truck division final round for the second week in a row.
Darryl Stiles of Williamson claimed final-round win in Street Outlaw, but it didn’t come easy, with him holding off a tenacious challenge from 2011 division champion Jason Thomas to take the victory.
In the Truck Advanced division, Andrew Pride used the night to claw back in the points standings. Pride entered the night a point behind Chuck Poole, but defeated Poole in the final behind the wheel of his 1973 Chevrolet C-10. With both racers going head-to-head, the division is expected to be one of many with highly competitive racing throughout the summer.
Among the faster classes, Mark White (Super Pro), David Harbin (Pro), Vic Vickers (Sportsman) and Terry Bates (Domestic Advanced) won consecutive points events.
Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags resumes June 15 with week seven of drag racing action and the kid’s power wheel races before drag eliminations. More information can be found at AtlantaMotorSpeedway.
