While much of the attention Saturday night at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA was on the visiting NASCAR K&N Pro East Series, the GMP local divisions were also in action, providing action from the Hometown Heroes for the North Georgia fans.
The evening kicked off with the Mini-Stock feature, as Avery Burgess and Vernon Hicks opened up the event going side-by-side. A three-wide run one lap later would leave Hicks in the lead, with Aaron Calvert moving to second and Burgess to third.
Meanwhile, Scotty Beck was on the move, making his way up to third. As that was going on, Burgess’ car appeared to be dropping fluid. He was black flagged, but did not respond until Hicks’ car came to a halt in turn four, drawing a caution.
Burgess made his way to the garage area, fixed the problem, and returned on the tail-end of the lead lap.
Meanwhile, Beck moved out into the lead, with Burgess in second and Matt Meyer in third. Beck moved out to a sizeable lead as Calvert charged from the back of the pack. With seven laps to go, Calvert made his way into the top pack.
With two laps to go, Beck’s car broke, handing the lead and the win over to Calvert. Burgess would come home second, with Meyer, Allen Cantrell, and Hicks rounding out the top five.
In the Sportsman feature, Brian Sosebee jumped out to an early lead, with Jackie Daniel giving chase. As the laps wound down, it appeared to be Sosebee’s race, but Daniel took the high line, worked his way around Sosebee with one lap to go, and motored on to score the win.
Meanwhile, Mike Childers outdistanced Nathaniel “Boo” Carlisle and Matthew Widener to win the Renegade feature.
In the Truck feature, Cody Haskins had to charge from the back, and then hold off a late race charge by Conrad Compton. Despite the challenges, Haskins continued to control victory lane for the trucks, as he motored away from a late race restart to score the victory. Compton finished second, with Matt Vasser in third, Kevin Vasser in fourth, and Aaron Calvert in fifth.
The local division’s night was closed out with the Outlaw Late Model feature. Three laps in, Jason Bates powered to the top spot. While former track champions David Murphy and Russell Fleeman fought further back, Bates drove away from all competition to score the victory. Matthew Wragg finished second, with Mike Davidson third, Murphy in fourth, and Fleeman in fifth.
