No matter how much work and preparation goes into a planned race weekend, there’s one thing you can’t outrun – the weather.

Mother Nature put the kibosh on racing plans for a lot of tracks and series over the weekend, leading to race postponements and a few outright cancellations for events all over the region.

Some got out in front of the wet and cold weather that plagued the area on Friday to save drivers, teams and fans from coping with the elements. Georgia’s Lavonia Speedway, was one of those, as the planned “Shamrock Skirmish” for Friday was pushed back to April 27-29. For more information, visit LavoniaSpeedway.net.

It was a similar situation for the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models, who were set to race on Thursday at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Thursday before moving on to Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia on Friday and Saturday. The series made the call early on to cancel both events due to the impending weather situation. Neither event will be made up. The threatening weather also led Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to reschedule Friday’s event at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio to Thursday, May 4. Saturday’s planned race at Indiana’s Brownstown Speedway was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. For more details, visit LucasDirt.com.

The SMART Modified Tour saw their second straight race affected by rainy weather as Saturday’s event at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia was postponed, with no rescheduled date announced. Check SMARTModTour.com for more information.
