Jimmy Johnson led flag-to-flag en route to the Stock V8 victory in Saturday night’s Roger Cooper Memorial at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway.
The victory was worth a $1,437 payday for the Danielsville, Georgia speedster for the win at the ¼-mile clay raceway.
Johnson started the night on the pole, and jumped out to the early lead over Ronnie Poole and Mark Chancey as the field raced into turn one on the opening lap.
The first of nine cautions on the night flew when several cars tangled in the first turn on lap two.
On the restart, it was Johnson again showing the way, with Poole working to hold off Chancey for second. The top three would stay that way all night, as the field battled behind them.
The only time Johnson came under fire was during the only long green flag run of the night. As Johnson was racing through lapped traffic, Poole was able to close to within a few car lengths. That battle came to a halt when the caution flag flew for a slow car on the backstretch.
Johnson would continue to hold the point through the next two cautions, but it looked like Poole would get a shot after the ninth caution flew late in the going.
On the restart, Poole tried to apply pressure to the leader, but Johnson moved out to a healthy lead. In the end, Johnson crossed the finish line just under a second ahead of Poole.
Keith Baker followed in fourth, with Hayden Collett in fifth.
Johnson took home two winner’s trophies on the night, as he also scored the victory in the Hobby/602 feature. Cade Cagle finished in second, with James Cason in third, Nick Sellers in fourth, and Michael Davidson in fifth.
In other action, Ken Lampp took home top honors in the Limited Late Model feature, with Alex Yarbrough in second, Nick Sellers in third, Logan Stinchcomb in fourth, and Tyler Wood in fifth.
Tyler Canup was first under the checkered flag to win the Chad Puckett in second, Aaron Criswell in third, Ronnie Poole in fourth, and Jimmy Johnson in fifth.
Will Harrison was the winner in the Stock 4A feature. Arron Cronic, Elliott Brayboy, Zack Cox, and Derek Lord rounded out the top five.
Will Harrison scored the victory in the Stock 4B feature, followed by Adam Jones in second, Bobby Croya in third, Rylee Gaines in fourth, and Scott Barner in fifth.
William Earnest was first across the finish line to win in the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Kenneth House second, Jake McBride third, James Robinson fourth, and Steve Hill fifth.
