While race fans usually look forward to lots of on-track action on Labor Day weekend, Mother Nature had other ideas this year.

Several area tracks and racing series saw their plans washed out, as strong showers were the rule over the holiday weekend.

Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway was slated for action on Friday, September 2, but the rain cut those plans short. WBS is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 10, for the final points paying races of the season. For more information, visit WinderBarrowSpeedway.com.

It was a similar story for race fans at Georgia’s Lavonia Speedway, where the track was scheduled to host the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Series for the Charlie Mize Memorial on Saturday night. The same showers and wet forecast that caused troubles for Winder-Barrow also led track and race officials to postpone the event, with a rescheduled date to be announced. The Valvoline Iron Man Racing Series was scheduled to compete on Saturday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia. But with rains in the forecast for the evening in the area, race officials made the call to cancel the event at the 3/8-mile clay track. Boyd’s will return to action on Friday, September 16. Check BoydsSpeedway.com for more information.

Sunday was scheduled to be race day at Georgia’s historic Toccoa Raceway, but the same showers that caused headaches at Lavonia and Winder-Barrow also left the grounds saturated at the 3/8-mile clay speedway. That, coupled with an unfavorable forecast, led track officials to postpone the event to Saturday, October 22. For more updates, check ToccoaRaceway.org.

The Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series was scheduled for a Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Ohio’s Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday and at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia on Sunday. But wet weather and a forboding forecast led to both events being washed out. The LOLMDS returns to racing on Thursday, September 15 at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway.
