Justin Sorrow continued his strong 2022 season by adding a win in the biggest race of the season at Anderson Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
Sorrow came home with the Limited Late Model victory in the annual Rupert Porter Memorial Shrine Race at the venerable 3/8-mile asphalt speedplant in Williamston, South Carolina.
It marks the third feature win of the season for the Belton, South Carolina native at AMS, and gives him a 24 point advantage over Archie Adams going into the track’s September 9 Championship night.
Sorrow started the 50-lap feature from the ninth starting position, and worked his way to the lead. In the end, he edged out veteran wheelman Anthony Anders to take the victory.
R.A. Brown followed in third, with Anders in fourth, and Neil Meredith in fifth.
Gary Greenwood, Jr., Jock White, Chris Whitfield, Austin Northcutt, and Austin Somero rounded out the top 10.
In other action, Chuck Mitchell recorded his third BM Modified feature victory of the season, beating out Rodger Gentry for the win. Riley Gentry followed in third, with Scott Robinson in fourth, and Nate Wimbrow in fifth.
Chad Campbell held off Ryan Howard to take his second Mini Stock feature win of the season. David Darnell came home in third, with Riley Gentry in fourth, and Jeff Turner in fifth.
Mitchell Thompson topped the US Legends feature for his third win of the year. Zack Alexander finished second, with Brandon Johnson third, Damon Burdette fourth, and Pruitt Flanagan fifth.
Zane Anders was the winner in the Renegades feature, with Caleb McClaren and Jessie Thomas rounding out the podium.
In Pure Stocks action, it was Michael Mote beating out Chris Lawson for the feature win. Danny Gilbert came across the line in third, followed by Chandler Gallman in fourth and Chase Plesko in fifth.
Jordan White topped the Young Guns field for the feature win, followed by Halee Whitfield in second, Jaylen Norris in third, McKenzie Barbare in fourth, and Camden Esco in fifth.
Nick Thunder took home top honors in the Carolina Vintage Racers feature. Steve Howard crossed under the checkered flag in second, with Tim Stokes in third, Donald Kritemeyer in fourth, and Jessie Martin in fifth.
Joshua Thomason scored the victory in the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Tommy Davis, Robert Hall, Chris Burkett, and Casey Burkett rounding out the top five.
