Donald McIntosh kicked off the Independence Day race weekend with a home state victory in Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series action at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia on Friday night.
The Dawsonville, Georgia speedster took the lead on a lap 15 restart in the 40-lap feature, and led the remainder of the way to score the win and a $5,000 payday at the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
It marked the fourth career series victory for McIntosh.
Sam Seawright and Vic Hill battled side-by-side for the race lead on the opening lap, with Hill nipping Seawright taking the point, followed by McIntosh, Brandon Williams, and Robby Mason.
Hill would clear Seawright for the lead on lap two and hold a car length advantage until the first caution of the race appeared on lap four for a three-car tangle in turn four involving Stacy Boles, Michael Chilton, and Tommy Taylor, with Boles being done for the event.
The restart would see Hill, Seawright, McIntosh, and Williams maintain the top four positions, while Mack McCarter bypassingMason for the fifth position. McCarter then challenged Williams for the fourth spot and would claim it on lap six.
Hill would build a comfortable lead by lap 10, but he would catch the rear of the field and start working slower traffic on lap 13. The final caution of the event waved on lap 15 when Chuck Christopher’s machine rolled to a stop on the backstertch.
On the restart, McIntosh made a move on the outside to take second, then stayed on the outside in turn three to challenge Hill for the lead. McIntosh completed the pass off turn four, and moved out about a second advantage en route to the win.
Hill finished in second, with McCarter in third, Seawright in fourth and Ricky Weiss in fifth.
Michael Chilton, Brandon Williams. Eli Beets, Jason Manley, and Robby Mason rounded out the top 10.
