Rain Postpones NASCAR Cup Series At Dover To Monday

Mother Nature has tamed the Monster Mile.

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover Motor Speedway has been postponed to Monday due to rainy weather.

The race rolled off on time, but was halted by showers on lap 78 of the scheduled 400.

Kyle Larson was scored as the leader when the rains came. Larson had paced the field under caution for five laps prior to the red flag coming out.

Pole sitter Chris Buescher led the field for the first 18 laps before surrendering the point to Denny Hamlin. Hamlin went on to lead the most laps so far on the day, topping the leader board for 55 laps. He gave up the lead for a pit stop under the caution flag when the rain initially hit the raceway.

After attempting to wait out the wet weather, NASCAR and track officials made the call to postpone the remainder of the race to Monday at noon due to the forecast of more rain and impending darkness. There are no track lights at Dover.

When the race resumes on Monday afternoon, Larson will be scored as the leader, with Chase Elliott in second, with Ryan Blaney in third, Martin Truex, Jr. in fourth, and William Byron in fifth.

Christopher Bell, Aric Almirola, Hamlin, defending race winner Alex Bowman, and Kyle Busch rounds out the current top 10.
