It was fitting that in the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series opening weekend in Georgia, it was a pair of Peach State aces scoring the wins.
Brandon Overton took home top honors on Friday night at Swainsboro Raceway, while Shane Clanton took a home track victory on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway.
On Friday night, Overton jumped to the early lead, and held the point flag-to-flag to record the win at Swainsboro Raceway.
The win was worth a $10,053 payday for the Evans, Georgia racer in the series first visit to the 3/10 -mile dirt track.
“I was just joking with (series promoter) Ray Cook here in victory lane that I wish I could make this thing drive like that all the time,” said Overton after picking up his fifth career series victory. “It is cool to be back here at Swainsboro. I cut my teeth racing around here and this place was so slick tonight. Hats off to Paul and everyone here at the track. All of my family is here tonight watching and I can’t thank them enough for all of their support along with the long line of sponsors on this car.”
Michael Page finished in second, with Mark Whitener in third, Dalton Cook in fourth, and Ashton Winger in fifth.
On Saturday night, action moved to Senoia Raceway, where Zebulon, Georgia’s Shane Clanton dominated the 53-lap feature to score the $10,053 paycheck.
Clanton bypassed pole sitter Chris Madden with an outside move on the second lap to grab the lead and never looked back, ultimately lapping up to the fifth position.
It marked his first career series victory.
“We have worked our tails off at Capital Race Cars to build a new race car,” Clanton said. “We didn’t show much in Florida during Speedweeks, but we learned a lot. Tonight, we made the right adjustments at the right time and got the job done. I have to thank the Bruening family for all of their support, along with all of our great sponsors that are involved with this Skyline Motorsports race team.”
Finishing 3.232 seconds behind Clanton at the checkers was runner-up Dylan Knowles, with Mark Whitener in third, Michael Page in fourth, and Sam Seawright in fifth.
