Randy Weaver made his first appearance of the year with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series pay off big on Sunday night.
The Crossville, Tennessee native led all 40 laps en route to the win at Georgia’s Rome Speedway, pocketing a $4,053 windfall for the victory at the half-mile clay track.
Weaver beat fellow front row starter Dale McDowell to turn one on the opening lap and proceeded to drive away from the field to win by a 5.111 second margin in a race slowed by only one early caution flag.
The win made Weaver the fifth different winner so far in the series for the 2021 season. It marks his eighth career series win, putting him sixth on the series all-time win list.
“Man this thing was really, really good tonight,” said Weaver of his race car. “I always enjoy coming to Rome and racing against these guys. It’s been awhile since I’ve won here though, but this may have been the best car I’ve ever had at this place. I can’t thank my whole team enough – we are having fun and that’s what it’s all about.”
Dawsonville, Georgia’s Donald McIntosh came home in second in a back-up car, with Newnan, Georgia’s Austin Horton in third, Chickamauga, Georgia’s Dale McDowell in fourth and Dalton Cook in fifth.
Zach Leonhardi, Billy Franklin, Jensen Ford, Ahnna Parkhurst, and Kenny Collins rounded out the top 10.
After four straight days in the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series will enjoy Monday away from the racetrack. They will reconvene on Tuesday, July 27 at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina.
