Dale Thurman may not have crossed the finish line first, but he still went home with the winner’s trophy in Saturday night’s Steelhead Late Model feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia.
Thurman originally crossed under the checkered line in the finish lien. But after the apparent winner was disqualified in post-race tech inspection, Thhurman inherited the victory and the winner’s paycheck.
Lee Sutton, returning after several years away from racing, finished second, trailed by Scott Hall in third, John Williams in fourth, and Bob Johnson in fifth.
In other action, Jake Knowles took his second Crate Late Model victory of the season. Knowles took the lead around the halfway point after Logan Palmer and Cody Haskins took turns at the point. From there, Knowles went on to record the win, with Palmer in second, Ty Ellis in third, Blant Duke in fourth and Devin Stuart in fifth.
Taylor Cole led wire-to-wire for his first 602 Sportsman feature win of the year. Zach Pilcher would fend off Sawyer Tinker for second with Jonathan Martin fourth and Nick May fifth.
Justin Wakefield took the Open Wheel Modified feature victory ahead of Duane Collins in second, Bo Jordan in third, Corey Reece in fourth, and Koulten Herbert in fifth.
Jeremy Williams led the way in the Economy Bomber for his second win of the season. Garrett Williams gave chase but ran out of laps, settling for a second place finish ahead of Cody Newton in third, Andrew Findley in fourth, and Jeff Peardon in fifth.
Jason Young took the Street Stinger win, but it was Shawn Harper starting dead last that had the crowd’s attention as he raced his way up to second. James Drummond finished third with David Pope fourth and Allen Jones fifth.
