After weeks of rain outs, Mother Nature finally cooperated in letting racing get back underway at North Carolina’s historic Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

And no one was happier than Vince Midas and Jake Crum, as the two split a pair of 40-lap features for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models.

In race one, Midas grabbed the top spot in qualifying, and would take the early lead after a spirited battle with outside pole sitter Gage Painter over the first two laps. Thomas Beane would follow Midas around Painter to move to second. The action was broken ujp by the first caution of the night on lap 17 when Julia Landuer’s car rolled to a stop in turn four.

Midas and Beane would battle on the restart, with Crum taking advantage of the situation to stack them three-wide for the lead. Crum would prevail to move to the point. It was short lived, however, as Midas bypassed Crum to retake the lead two laps later.

From there, Midas went on to record the victory. Painter would move past Beane to finish in second, while Beane held on for third. Bradley McCaskill rolled home in fourth, followed by Chris Hudspeth in fifth.

In the second feature, a nine car invert of the finishing order of the first feature put Landauer on the pole, with Crum on the outside of the front row. Landauer would nose out to the early lead, but would make the move for the lead a few laps later.

Behind the leaders, Mike Darne was on the move, powering to second before working to track down the leader. With 10 laps to go, Darne caught Crum, with the two racing side-by-side for the remainder of the feature.

In the end, it was Crum winning by a nose over Darne. Beane finished in third, with McCaskill in fourth and Midas in fifth.

In other action, Josh Kossek scored the victory in the Limited Late Model feature. Cody DeMarmels finished in second, with Stevie Johns, Jr. in third, Kyle Mansch in fourth and Landon Huffman in fifth.

Drew Cox was the winner in the Street Stocks feature, with Kevin Eby, Ethan Johnson, Jonathan Smith and Marshall Sutton rounded out the top five.

Spencer Dickinson took top honors in the Renegades feature, with Brian Larkin in second, Robbie Hollifield in third, Danny Crump, Jr. in fourth and Zachary Mullins in fifth.

Dennis Ward was the winner in the 4 Cylinders feature. Robert Trivette finished second, with Cody Combs third, Ashton Trivette fourth and Allison Houston fifth.
