Donald McIntosh and Ross Bailes made trips to victory lane in Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series action over the weekend.
McIntosh, from Dawsonville, Georgia, swept the first two nights with wins at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina and Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway.
On Saturday night, it was Ross Bailes scoring his first career series win at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee.
On Thursday night, Donald McIntosh claimed his first series victory of the season on at Ray Cook’s Tri-County Race Track.
McIntosh collected $4,000 for the win, becoming the fourth different winner in six points races so far. This was also his fourth career Spring Nationals payday.
McIntosh led all 40 laps from the pole and took the victory over Dale McDowell, who finished in second. Casey Roberts finished third, with Kenny Collins in fourth and Jamie Oliver in fifth.
McIntosh dominated the feature event but credited his team for the winning car.
“Man we made the right call on changes and everything, we had a really good car, anytime you can outrun Dale (McDowell) you’ve done something,” McIntosh said. “Track was pretty good tonight, it had a bottom and a top, I wasn’t so good in the bottom and around the lap cars I was a little scared. I can’t thank these guys enough, David Bryant (Crew Chief) and Eric Watson and everyone that’s a part of this team, it’s cool to be able to drive for them, what a night.”
On Friday night, McIntosh claimed his second-straight series victory Crossville Speedwayfor another $4,000 pay day and his fifth career series win.
Polesitter and new track record holder Ross Bailes set a blistering pace on the initial start of the race but sixth-place starter Dale McDowell would slow on the backstretch during the initial green and slow the field. McDowell would retire to the infield with mechanical issues.
Bailes would lead again for the restart and maintain that position until lap 14. After a caution flag flew for Tommy Taylor slowing in turn two, the 14th lap seemed to be the lap that would keep on giving, literally. On the restart, Tanner English slowed with a right-rear flat tire.
Then under caution, Bailes slowed with a right-rear flat as well. On the third try for a restart, fifth-place Jeff Neubert slowed on the back stretch with a right-rear flat tire as well. The final yellow would wave on lap-28 as Scott Cook also shredded a right-rear tire.
McIntosh would lead the remaining distance and take the win over Dakotah Knuckles in second, Robby Moses in third, Tanner English in fourth and Bailes in fifth.
On Saturday night, Ross Bailes captured his first-career series payday at Thunderhill Raceway.
Bailes took the lead from fast qualifier Dale McDowell on the 37th lap of the 60 lap feature, and held off the veteran driver to score the win.
The Clover, South Carolina native pocketed a cool $10,000 payday for his efforts.
Polesitter McDowell and McIntosh brought the field the green flag, with McDowell setting a blistering pace early on. Bailes would start fourth in the main event and by the 36th lap inched close to the back bumper of McDowell. As McDowell and Bailes worked their way around lapped traffic, Bailes would get past McDowell for the race lead and never look back and lead the remaining distance for the payday.
McDowell would finish second with Eric Hickerson finishing in third at the checkered flag. Tanner English and Dane Dacus rounded out the top five.
Two caution flags slowed the field. The first caution came on lap 12 when Brandon Overton slowed on the backstretch. The final caution flew on lap-40 as McIntosh slowed in turn one while running fourth.
