Kevin Leicht Takes Late Model Stock Victory At Hickory

Kevin Leicht held off a late race charge from Mike Swaim to score the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car feature victory Saturday night at North Carolina’s Hickory Motor Speedway.

The Asheville, North Carolina racer started in fourth, while Mike Darne and Swaim made up the front row. Darne and Swaine battled side-by-side for the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Swain finally pushing into the lead on the high side.

Darne would move back to the lead on lap nine, and held the point unjtil Leicht moved around him to take the top spot on lap 41. They would swap the lead back on lap 53 while Swaim closed on the lead duo.

The top three battled for the lead over the final five laps. Swaim moved under Leicht on the final lap, but came up a few feet short at the finish line.

Darne finished in third, with Charlie Watson in fourth and Brody Pope in fifth.

In other action, Clint Field edged out Allen Huffman for the win in the Carolina Custom Golf Cart Super Trucks feature. Joey Shuryan finished in third, followed by Joe Simpson in fourth and Dennis Trivette in fifth.

Gage Painter took the lead from the pole and went on to win the Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Model feature. Mitch Walker finished in second, with Cody DeMarmels third, Akinori Ogata fourth and Josh Kossek fifth.

Rookie Spencer Dickinson recorded the victory in the Renegades feature. Justin Austin, Robbie Hollifield, Rodney Elkins and Zach Mullins rounded out the top five.

Drew Cox inherited the lead of the Street Stocks feature with three laps to go when leader Jonathan Smith slowed suddenly. Cox went on to score the victory, with Kevin Eby in second, Mark Whitten in third, Jesse Clark in fourth and Derek Fowler in fifth.

Tim Gilbert was the winner in the Hickory Vintage Racing Series, with Bill Webb, Eddie Gilbert, Dennis Hinkle and Bill Powell rounding out the top five.
