Last lap excitement was the theme of the second event of the Fall Five Series for Legends and Bandolero cars on the Thunder Ring at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The most dramatic last lap series of events on the ¼ mile track came in the Masters Legends, as Covington, Georgia’s Tony Armbuster came home with the victory.
After a back-and-forth battle for the lead between Robbie Woodall and Brian Weimer, the field took the white flag with Woodall out front and seemingly on his way to victory.
That changed when Woodall’s car slowed coming off turn two. As Woodall’s ailing machine tried to make it back to the line, Weimer and Bill Plemons, Jr., came out of the stack-up side-by-side for the lead entering the final corners.
Just when it appeared the race would be decided between the two of them, both Plemons and Weimer went wide in turn 4, opening up the bottom lane for Armbruster.
Armbruster was running in fourth place entering the final lap, but was able to thread his way through the last lap chaos to take the checkered flag first. Weimer finished in second, with Plemons in third.
In the Young Lions feature, leader Ryan Rackley found himself shuffled back to third on a late restart. With two laps to go, Rackley passed Audrie Ruark for second, and then set his sights on Lucas Ruark as the field took the white flag.
On the final lap, Rackley dove to the inside of Lucas Ruark and completed the pass just before the finish line to secure back-to-back Fall Five series wins.
In the Pro division, polesitter Carson Ferguson set a blistering pace throughout the 20-lap feature on his way to victory.
Sammy Smith likewise set the bar in the Semi-Pro Legends feature, leading all 20 laps before taking the checkered flag.
In the Bandits Bandoleros, trouble for Landon Rapp while leading late opened the door for Jaiden Reyna, who took over the top spot and led the final four laps en route to the feature win.
Blaise Maddox secured the lead after a spirited battle with Kenny Brady, and survived a final turn bump-and-run attempt to win the Outlaws Bandolero feature.
Clay Hocutt started fifth in the Rookie Bandoleros feature, but quickly worked his way to the lead and took the victory.
The third race of the Fall Five Series is scheduled for Saturday, October 20. More information can be found at AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com.
