Jason Jameson, Don O’Neal and Gregg Satterlee all scored Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature victories in Ohio over the holiday weekend.
Jameson scored his first career series victory on Saturday night at Portsmouth Raceway Park, while O’Neal doubled up with wins on Sunday at Mansfield Motor Speedway and on Monday at Sharon Speedway. On Tuesday, Satterlee went to victory lane at Muskingum County Speedway.
On Saturday, Jason Jameson became the newest winner on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour, claiming his biggest career victory at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
Jameson took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then had to hold off the challenges from Josh Richards. A caution with ten laps to go turned into a two-car battle between Jameson and Richards with the Indiana driver crossing the line to cap off a very exciting race.
“I can’t thank my crew enough, especially Tim, Jeff, and Tony and everybody who makes this happen,” said Jameson. “I don’t want to see this month end. I wish my car owner James (Rattliff) was here to see this. Scott (Bloomquist) drove the wheels off of that thing. It made me get up and drive a little harder.”
Richards finished in second with Bloomquist in third, Rod Conley in fourth and Tim McCreadie in fifth.
On Sunday, Don O’Neal drove to victory lane for the first time this season in dominating fashion, as he led all 50 laps en route to the win at Mansfield Motor Speedway.
O’Neal took the lead at the start of the race and never looked back, going unchallenged for his 44th career series win.
Starting on the outside front row, O’Neal was slowed by a handful of cautions. He closed out the race with an over four second margin of victory over Bloomquist. In the series championship points standings, O’Neal becomes the eighth driver in the top ten to earn a win in 2018.
“It seems like a long time since we have been in victory lane,” O’Neal said. “My hat is off to the whole crew, they worked so hard getting us headed in the right direction. Anthony Burroughs (Crew Chief) and my team, they have never given up this season. They are making us better every week. My crew was signaling me so I knew I had a pretty good lead, but I didn’t know it was as much as it was.”
Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens battled for second for several laps with Bloomquist finally able to pull away in the last half of the race. Earl Pearson, Jr. finished in fourth, followed by Hudson O’Neal in fifth.
O’Neal made it back-to-back triumphs on Monday night with a win in the Steel Valley 50 at Sharon Speedway.
O’Neal took the lead on lap 14 from Mason Zeigler, who finished in second. Zeigler chased down O’Neal in the final laps but came up short in his bid for his first win of the season.
Zeigler was looking for a clean sweep of racing activities as he set fast time in qualifying and won his heat race to earn the pole starting position in the 50-lap main event. Zeigler took the lead at the start of the race. For the first 13 laps Zeigler held off Earl Pearson, Jr., Jonathan Davenport, and O’Neal for the top spot until O’Neal forged ahead on lap 14.
“Thanks to everybody at Clint Bowyer Racing,” said O’Neal. “I hope we keep this thing rolling. It feels good to run well, especially after Portsmouth where we tore up a bunch of stuff. We got up early yesterday to get everything fixed, and it all paid off after last night.”
Josh Richards, finished in third, with Blairsville, Georgia’s Davenport in fourth and Darrell Lanigan fifth.
On Tuesday night, Gregg Satterlee was in complete control from the start of the 50-lap feature at Muskingum County Speedway.
With the dominating victory, Satterlee becomes the 13th different series winner this year and the 12th different winner in 13 appearances at the Zanesville, Ohio facility.
Satterlee jumped to the lead at the start of the main event and never looked back. There was only one caution that slowed the field and that was with 11 laps remaining. On the restart, Satterlee pulled away again from Lanigan and went on for the convincing win – his second career on the LOLMDS tour.
“It’s been a long-time coming,” said Saterlee. “It’s so tough to win a race against these guys. You have to take them when they are there. We have struggled this year, but recently we have been running better. My crew chief Robbie Allen and the rest of the crew have worked hard to turn this thing around.
“It’s great to win in front of my family here tonight. My dad, wife, and new daughter are here. This is my daughter’s first visit to victory lane. There was a great crowd here tonight and I hope the fans enjoyed the show.”
Lanigan finished in second with current series points leader Davenport taking third. Josh Richards and Hudson O’Neal completed the top five.
