Ashton Higgins jumped to the lead on the opening lap of Saturday night’s Southeast Super Truck Series feature at Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, North Carolina, and drove to his first career series victory.
The win came in just the third series start for the 15-year-old Weaverville, North Carolina native, who pocketed a cool $1,000 for his efforts.
The night started with Ashley Huffman scoring the pole in qualifying, but a three truck inversion moved Kenneth Headen to the top spot.
Headen led the field down to the green flag, but it was Higgins taking the early lead. As the field gave chase, drivers began jockeying for position. Taylor Hosford began working over Toby Hollifield for fourth place, with the pair battling side-by-side for several laps before she finally made the pass.
Ahead of them, Huffman worked his way around Headen to take over second, and by the halfway mark of the race, had closed on Higgins. Behind the fight for the lead, Hosford worked her way around Headen for second.
Higgins began pulling away from the field over the closing laps, while Hosfeld worked around Headen for second.
Ahead of that battle, Higgins checked out in the lead, and went on to score his first career series win.
Hosford finished in second, with Headen in third, Hollifield in fourth, and Frady in fifth.
Greg Nix, Jimmy Roberts, Bennie Davis, Ronald Buckner and Jamie Barbrey rounded out the top ten.
Racing for the Southeast Super Truck Series returns on Saturday, May 12 as the series makes its second trip of the season to Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina.
