David McCoy used a double-file restart to take the lead of Sunday’s Limited Late Model feature at Georgia’s Lavonia Speedway, and went on to score the $2,000 Georgia State Championship victory.
The Franklin, North Carolina speedster trailed defending champion Ashley Poole for more than half of the 40-lap feature before taking the top spot for good and driving away for the win.
Poole, who made up ground near the end, secured the runner-up spot, with Billy Rushton in third, Clayton Turner in fourth and Dustin Mincey in fifth.
In other action, Adam Partain scored the win in the Crate Late Model feature, also pocketing $2000. After seeing nearly a half-track advantage erased by a late caution that allowed David McCoy to start alongside him in a double-file green, white, checkered finish, Partain was able to gain an advantage from the inside lane and powered to the victory. McCoy held on to finish second ahead of Dale Timms in thiurd, with John Howard in fourth and Cory Almond in fifth.
Billy Rushton snatched the win away from Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance in the 602 Hobby feature. Lance Chitwood finished in third ahead of Justin Sims in fourth and Nick Schlager in fifth.
Chris Cape was the winner in the Modified Street feature. After apparently finishing second, Kyle Gordon was disqualified in post-race inspections, moving Rusty Jordan to second, with Ronnie Poole in third, Sterling Helm in fourth and Jennifer Everett in fifth.
Jack Hill took the victory in the Stock V8 feature, followed by Ben Carswell in second, Evan Brown in third, Chris Cape in fourth and Stephen House in fifth.
Kevin Kelly drove from the back of the Stock 4 field to score the victory. Matt Gilbert, Chris Wilson, Scott Hollars and Harley Holden rounded out the top five.
Hunter Anthony scored the Front Wheel Drive feature victory, holding off Harley Holden, who had to settle for second. Tony Stevens finished third, with Eddie Segars in fourth and Nikoli Holcomb in fifth.
Preston Kelly took top honors in the Beginner 4-Cylinder feature. Daniel Booth, Jacob Kelly, Trent Blackwell and Bobby Hendricks rounded out the top five.
