Frankie Beard avoided trouble to score the win in Sunday’s FASTRAK Pro Late Model Feature at Georgia’s Toccoa Raceway.

Beard was challenging leader Ricky Smith when Smith tangled with a lap car that sent him spinning in turn two.

That allowed Beard to take the lead and go on to win the Independence Day Weekend event at the historic 5/16 mile clay oval.

Smith started the feature from the pole, and moved out to a commanding lead from the drop of the green flag. Beard settled into second, but found himself constantly under fire from third place Colby Cannon.

As the race hit lap 16, Smith found himself working to negotiate lap heavy lap traffic. That allowed Beard and Cannon to close on the leader.

On lap 17, Beard mounted a charge on the outside of Smith for the lead as the duo raced down the frontstretch and into turn one.

That’s where it all went south for Smith.

While trying to work under the lap car of Will Harris, the two made contact, sending Smith around. Cannon had nowhere to go, and plowed into Smith, ending both driver’s chances to contend for the win.

Meanwhile, Beard drove to the outside of the trouble, and assumed the lead as the caution flag came out.

From there, Beard went on to hold off Cla Knight to record the victory. Sylvan Schuette finished in third, with Adam Smith in fourth and Dylan Lewis in fifth.

Derrick Harvey, Drew Benfield, Benji Hicks, Jody Farmer, and Larry Waters rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Jody Parks scored the win for the visiting SHARP Mini Late Models. Gavin Cowan finished second, with Brad Anderson third, Chris Gerdmann fourth and Matt Harden fifth.

Gus Simpson was the winner in the Limited Late Model feature, followed by David McCoy in second, Wesley English in third, Josh Thurmond in fourth and Dustin Mincey in fifth.

Crandall Turner scored the victory in the 602 Sportsman/Hobby feature. John Howard came home in second, with Chris Wilbanks in third, Brandon Stroud in fourth and Josh Hellams in fifth.

Rusty Jordan took top honors in the Modified Street feature, with Robbie Campbell second, Sterling Helm third, Billy Buffington fourth and Daniel Snow fifth.
