Dale McDowell drove to his second ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series victory of the 2017 season on Monday night at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
The Chickamauga, Georgia driver made the pass on Ross Bailes on lap 29 of the 50 lap feature, and went on to score his fourth career series victory and the $10,000 top prize that went with it.
Brandon Overton of Evans, Georgia finished in second, with Bailes in third, Shanon Buckingham in fourth and Vic Hill in fifth.
Jimmy Owens, Ryan King, Ricky Weiss, Dennis Franklin and Dakotah Knuckles rounded out the top ten.
When the green flag flew to start the feature, Overton took the lead from the outside front row starting spot followed by Bailes and McDowell. On lap three, McDowell passed Bailes for the second spot. Thirteen laps later, the first of only two caution flags came out for Travis Greer on lap 16.
On the restart, Bailes bypassed McDowell to reclaim the second spot, and on lap 18, he moved up to challenge Overton for the lead. Bailes grabbed the point on lap 19, with Overton second and McDowell in third.
McDowell moved back to second on lap 22, and was setting up a charge at the leader. The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 28 for debris on the front straightaway. The restart saw Bailes jump the cushion on lap 29, and McDowell was able drive by to take the lead.
From there, McDowell went on to score the victory by a .777 second margain.
The next race for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will be a National event on Saturday, June 5 at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Virginia.
