Colby Howard held off Luke Sorrow to score the Southeast Limited Late Model Series Pro division victory Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina.
Despite seven lead changes in the first 25 laps, Howard had the dominant car late in the race, powering ahead following the final caution for debris with 40 to go. From there, he would hold off three charges from Sorrow in the final 15 laps before notching the victory.
“That was a really hard race,” Howard said. “Luke raced me hard and I raced him hard, but it was clean. I thought he might get me or get to me there at the end, but we were able to hang on. Hats off to him … for a great race. I had a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, Bob Root scored the victory in the SELLM Daytona1 Challenger division. Root started the race on the pole and never looked back, as he went on to record his second win of the season.
“The car was excellent tonight,” said Root. “It’s a good group effort. I want to thank Anthony for having this division down here; maybe one time we’ll be able to beat some of those young kids (in the Pro division).”
In other action, Tony Gibson wired the field in the Mulligan Power Truck Series feature, leading all 35 laps of the feature to score the victory.
Gibson started from the pole and dominated the event, opening up as much as a seven second lead at times over the field on his way to victory lane. Jamie Altop finished in second, with Jamie Tate in third, Luke Sorrow in fourth and Pete Porter in fifth.
Blake Gregory led every lap en route to the victory in the Renegade feature. Gregory started from the outside pole but had the lead before a lap was complete, holding off Billy Brown through two cautions and a 20 lap run to the finish. Lance George finished in third, with Shane Brown in fourth and Larry Nabors in fifth.
James Johnson was the winner in the Four Cylinder feature, with Michael Webster, Dannon Esco, Ray Mullinax and Danny Esco rounding out the top five.
Ricky Proffitt was the winner in the Bandit Big Rig feature. Justin Ball finished in second, with Chris Kikelhan in third, Darren Proffitt in fourth and Tyler Kruckeberg in fifth.
