Dennis Lykins, Jr. picked up his first career B Cadet division victory at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway Saturday night, edging out Jody Knowles by less than a foot.

Knowles made a last lap attempt to steal away a lead that Lykins enjoyed for the entire distance of the feature race, but came up just short.

“We had a little luck on our side to get it done, but I’ll take it anyway,” said Lykins. “It’s amazing to see how many of my fellow competitors came up to congratulate me and genuinely be happy for us. Just shows we race with some of the best around.”

Lykins led the field from the drop of the green, but Knowles and Richard Goode ran three wide with him for the first couple of laps. Goode’s charge ended early when another car made contact with the front end of his car knocking the car’s set-up off.

Lykins and Knowles continued their battle at the front of the pack. Knowles would try to get several runs using the top side of the 3/8ths mile track. Lykins would run the bottom of the track, keeping his car in front each time when they would motor down the straightaways.

On the final lap, Knowles jumped low to try and surprise Lykins who slipped up the track just enough to create a drag race from the fourth turn. In a photo finish, Lykins beat Knowles by less than a foot at the finish line, giving him his first career win. Knowles was second with Billy Stevenson third, Bobby Arnold fourth and Parrish Duncan in fifth.

Marty Lunsford shot out to the early lead in the Crate Late Model feature. Cruz Skinner over took Lunsford on the second lap, with Craig Scott following. On lap 11, Scott took the top spot as the leaders raced in lap traffic, but saw his lead go away when he tangled with the lap car of Dow Kirkland, bringing out the caution. Scott was relegated to the back of the pack, handing the lead back to Skinner.

Skinner held the lead the rest of the way as he went on to score the victory. Dylan Knowles finished in second, with Lundsford in third, Wayne Harbin in fourth and Jonathan Harrell in fifth.

Clint Smith and Joe Armistead, Jr. put on a strong, side-by-side battle in the Super Late Model feature. At the end, it was Smith taking his seventh win of the season with Armistead in second, Mason Massey in third, Joey Armistead in fourth and Bubba Pollard in fifth.

Smith would double up with a victory in the Limited Late Model feature. Cruz Skinner, Clifton Moran, Matt Dooley and Glenn Morris rounded out the top five.

With a lap and a half to go in the Bomber feature, Dorough Bright overtook Brent Harmon for the lead and looked to have the win in the bag. But a caution coming to the white flag sent the scoring to the previously completed lap, giving the lead back to Harmon. Harmon would go on to score the victory, with his father, Tim Harmon, in second. Bright finished in third, with Jim Jackson fourth and Wilson Boozer fifth.

Jason Gillilan won the first of two Mini-Stock features, with Austin Brumbelow in second, Don Cook in third, Dan Bennet in fourth and Brent Couch in fifth.

Jamie Rowan took the win in the second Mini-Stock feature, with Couch second, Jamie Godbee third, Jamie Nicholson, Sr. in fourth and Gillilan in fifth.

Senoia Raceway returns to action on Sept. 10 for the speedway’s regular season points finale.
