Luke Sorrow and Thad Moffitt each made trips to victory lane at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina on Saturday night, as each picked up wins in Southeast Limited Late Model Series action.
Luke Sorrow was the winner in the Pro feature, while Moffitt, the grandson of NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, scored the Daytona 1 Challenger win for his first career asphalt Late Model victory.
For Sorrow, it marked his third series win, as he won the pole and led wire-to-wire for the victory.
“Even though we were out front, I had been saving my stuff the entire race,” said Sorrow. “I just had to pace myself. We never got the car sideways, and just managed what we had. It all worked out pretty well.”
All three of Sorrow’s wins with the series this season have come at the three-eighths-mile Anderson oval, and the 15-year-old said he just “has a feel” for the track where his older brother Justin tasted success in the past.
“I’ve always liked Anderson. My brother’s raced here forever, and he taught me everything I know about getting around this place. It’s not an easy track, but I’m comfortable here and I enjoy it.”
Sorrow stormed to the lead on the opening lap, but it wasn’t three more corners before Moffitt lost a right front tire entering turn three, sending him into the outside wall and bringing out the first caution of the night.
The restart saw Sorrow escape with the lead as Colby Howard slid into second. The race quickly settled into a long green flag run, with Sorrow moving out to a half-second margin over Howard.
The race would be slowed for the second time at lap 36, when debris in turn three brought out the caution. On the next restart, Anthony Alfredo moved to second from Howard, and began trying to chase down Sorrow.
Sorrow would maintain his consistent half-second margin over Alfredo through lap 50, when he began to pull away from the rest of the pack. From there, Sorrow went on to score the victory.
Alfredo finished in second, with Howard in third, Blair Addis in fourth and Omar Jurado in fifth.
Earlier in the evening, fourth-generation racer Thad Moffitt collected his first-career Southeast Limited Late Model Series Daytona 1 Challenger Division victory, driving away from the field late in a thrilling 30-lap main event.
Moffitt started on the pole and led 22 of the race’s 30 circuits, but had to fight back from two rough restarts before ultimately passing Anthony Miller with 10 laps to go. From there, he moved away for the win.
“It was tough for me on the restarts tonight,” said Moffitt. “I’m still learning that part of it a little bit. But it was super fun racing Anthony and Andrew (Cordell) there … it was a really good race. We were sideways for half the race, I felt like. It was like running on a dirt track. Luckily there at the end we were able to pull away and get the win.”
Moffitt led the field to the green flag and had to fend off an early challenge from Cordell, before Miller spun to the top of turn one to bring out the first caution flag of the race at lap two.
Once the green flag returned, it would be Moffitt setting the pace again as Amber Lynn battled with Cordell for the runner up spot before seizing it solidly on the fourth lap.
Lap 12 would see a battle for third between Miller and Cordell, with Miller seizing the spot courtesy of momentum from the outside groove before the race’s second yellow flew for a hard crash by Lynn in turn three. A problem on the right front would see Lynn hit the outside wall, ending her night with terminal damage to the right front corner of her machine.
The ensuing restart would see Moffitt miss a shift and be shuffled from first to third in a three-wide fight for the top spot in turn one, as Cordell took control of the race for four laps before Miller challenged on the inside groove.

Miller charged to the inside of Cordell for the point on lap 17, with the duo racing side-by-side before taking the lead officially on the 18th lap.
But Moffitt wasn’t done. He nudged Miller in turn two on lap 19, taking the point back just before Cordell and Miller crashed behind him the next time through turns one and two.
The lap count would revert back to 18, but Moffitt would inherit the lead for the restart as he led the field back to green. Miller would charge to the inside in turn three to resume the lead for two additional laps, but Moffitt was finally able to work clear for good with 10 to go and never looked back.
The rookie was emotional in victory lane in regards to Saturday being the first win of his racing career.
“This is truly amazing. I’ll never forget this night,” Moffitt said. “This is my first-ever win … in anything … and I don’t know quite what to say, really. Just a really special moment.”
Miller finished in second, with Cordell credited with third and Lynn credited with fourth.
