Saturday was a day of doubles at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, as drivers and fans came out for double Summit ET racing action.
In the first round of action, George Mitchell took the Super Pro victory in his ’70 Nova over Jimmy Turpin in his ’00 Worthy Dragster. Mitchell ran a 5.892 ET off his 5.87 dial in at 114.60 mph with a great reaction of 0.015. Turpin ran a 4.949 ET on his dial in of 4.95 (break out) at 136.98 mph with a slower 0.087 reaction.
Matt Ward took the Pro victory in his ’69 Camaro, as he defeated Allen Williams in his ’91 Chevy S-10 pickup truck. Ward ran a 6.450 ET on his 6.44 dial in at 105.83 mph on a near prefect 0.001 reaction time. Williams ran a 7.388 ET on his 7.40 dial (break out) at 92.64 mph with a 0.024 reaction.
The Sportsman final came down to two Mustangs, with John Snapp in his 2013 Mustang defeating Russell Haskins in his ’13 Mustang. Snapp, with a near prefect reaction of 0.001 ran a 13.295 ET off his 13.20 dial in at 104.74 mph, slammed the door on Haskins’ slower 0.081 reaction with a 12.443 ET on his 12.42 dial in at 113.58 mph.
In the Super Pro Bike final, David Fletcher on his ’84 Kawasaki defeated Jimmy Heisler on his 2000 Kawasaki. Fletcher ran a 5.809 ET (dead on) off his 5.80 dial in at 112.63 mph and a reaction of 0.053, to Heisler’s 6.815 ET on his 6.78 dial in at 101.84 and a 0.051 reaction time.
Andrew Patterson from Taylors, SC took the Street ET Bike win with a hole shot. Andrew on his ’07 Suzuki won over Jordan Autry on his ’11 Kawasaki. Patterson ran an 8.980 ET on his 8.94 dial in at 141.43 mph with a reaction of 0.042 (hole shot win). Autry ran a 9.338 ET on his 9.33 dial in at 143.66 mph and a 0.079 reaction.
In the second round of races, Joe Goddard beat out five competitors in dragsters with his 1969 Chevy Nova to take the victory. In the final round, Goddard ran a 5.862 ET on his 5.81 dial in at 117.78 mph and a great reaction of 0.013 to defeat Susan Spikes in her ’98 Mullis Dragster. Spikes ran a 5.513 ET off her 5.52 dial in (break out) at 125.32 mph and a 0.037 reaction time.
Scott Reynolds doubled up on the day by scoring wins in both the Pro and Sportsman categories. gets first win of a double win in two classes. In the Pro final, Reynolds, in his ’02 Camaro SS, defeated Bill Boomhower in his ’65 Plymouth. Reynolds in the final ran an 8.502 ET on his 8.50 dial in (dean on) at 85.34 mph with a 0.103 reaction to Boomhower’s run of 6.254 ET on his 6.13 dial in at 107.57 mph and a 0.085 reaction time.
In the Sportsman final, Reynolds defeated Allen Schaffer in his ’15 Charger. Reynolds ran a 13.170 on his 13.17 dial in (dead on again) at 103.64 mph and a 0.044 reaction time against Schaffer who ran a 14.819 ET off his 15.00 dial in (break out) at 90.24 mph and a reaction of 0.132.
Jodan Autry also doubled up in the Super Pro Bike and Street ET Bike finals. In Super Pro Bike, Autrey, on his 2011 Kawasaki ZX 1400, beat Randy Barnett on his ’08 Suzuki. Autrey ran a 5.908 ET on his 5.89 dial in at 119.32 mph with a 0.012 reaction time. Barnett ran a 5.957 ET on his 5.95 dial in at 119.36 mph but left a red light shining with a – 0.031 reaction.
Autrey then went on to defeat Michael Mann on his ’06 Busa for the Street ET Bike victory. Autrey ran a 9.243 ET on his 9.20 dial in at 145.74 mph with a -0.021 red light, to Mann, who red lit first with an -0.009 and ran an 11.560 ET on his 9.58 dial in at 82.82 mph.
