Christopher Bell came away with a dramatic victory in the Super Late Model portion of Saturday night’s 2016 CARS Tour Orange Blossom 300 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC.

Meanwhile, fellow NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Timothy Peters scored the win in the Late Model Stock portion of the event.

In the Super Late Model feature, pole sitter Trevor Noles brought the field to green. Noles would lead the opening ten laps before Bell moved around to take the lead.

Though Bell was in command out front for the vast majority of the race, behind him the late-race players were filtering to the top as competitors like Noles, Tyler Ankrum and Dalton Sargeant vigorously exchanged the runner-up spot.

Bell’s lead over the final quarter of the evaporated as both Raphael Lessard and Sargeant battled door-to-door while chasing down the race leader. Lessard cleared Sargeant with just 14 laps to go and quickly found himself glued to the Bell’s rear bumper.

A textbook short track battle around the fast high banks of Orange County Speedway ensued as Lessard tried everything except wrecking Bell for the race lead. Sargeant watched from a car length behind as Lessard and Bell swapped lanes and traded paint and in front of him.

On the final lap, Bell held off the advances of Lessard and captured his second consecutive Orange Blossom 300 victory and his fourth career CARS Tour win. Lessard finished in second, with Sargeant in third, Brandon Setzer in fourth and Preston Peltier in fifth.

“It was up there for sure,” said Bell when asked how intense that race was. “I had a really good race car and it was handling really well, but I don’t know what was going on with the motor. It was stumbling badly down the back straightaway. It just kept getting worse and worse and I was praying that it would hang on. I just got to give a big thanks to those guys behind me, Dalton and the 99 car there (Lessard). They could have really ran me a lot dirtier than they did. Thank you to this team. It is an honor to be here at Kyle Busch Motorsports and it is cool to be in victory lane again.”

In the Late Model Stock feature, pole sitter Timonty Peters jumped out to the early lead, but it only took three laps before Deac McCaskill moved to the head of the field. JR Motorsports standout Josh Berry slotted in third around Stefan Parsons and gave chase on the lead duo.

R.D. Smith, after starting fifth, quickly moved up to second by lap 50 after he displaced Peters and began to pressure McCaskill for the lead. Contact between the two leaders tore away the right front fender from Smith’s ride on lap 108 and the ensuing caution flag ultimately ended any chance Smith had at his first career CARS Tour victory.

After a quick series of restarts, launched around McCaskill to retake the lead on lap 114. Peters held on for the win over McCaskill, with Berry in third, Myatt Snider in fourth and Tommy Lemons, Jr. in fifth.

“It’s really good and I like the pulp right now,” said a jubilant Peters after his win, referring to the orange juice winners were given to celebrate. “CARS Tour is such a great series and this is our first time here. Thanks to the fans for everything. It’s for these guys (the crew) right here. They work hard and we run Brandon Pierce at South Boston and he is doing a great job with that. Our little program is something to be reckon with. It’s just so fun to come out here and run door to door with some of the best late model guys in the country.

The next event for the CARS Tour will be at Hickory Motor Speedway on May 7 for the Catawba Valley 250. For more information, visit CARSRacingtour.com.
