Brandon Overton paid his first visit to Senoia Raceway on Saturday night, and made it a good one as he beat out Shane Clanton to score the Super Late Model victory at the Senoia, GA raceway.
Overton shot out to the lead from his outside front row starting position in the Super Late Model feature overtaking fast qualifier Chase Junghans. Clanton was able to get under Junghans and drop him one more spot before everyone fell in line.
Overton kept all challenges from Clanton closed throughout the 30-lap main event. Clanton would close the gap, but get caught up with a lapped car, allowing Overton to hold the lead. A late caution reset the field and, on the restart, Overton pulled away to his first career win at Senoia. Clanton would settle for second, followed by Junghans in third, Clint Smith in fourth and Joe Armistead, Jr. in fifth.
In other action, Trey Wood took the early lead in the Crate Late Model feature, with Dylan Knowles, Marty Lunsford and Mark Page giving chase. Knowles moved up to challenge for the lead, and would take the top spot away from Wood on lap 12, with Page moving to second.
The field was reset with five laps to go after a caution, with Page and Knowles fighting for the lead on the restart. As the duo raced through turns three and four, Knowles slipped up the track, squeezing Page to the outside. Page took offense to the action, slamming into Knowles in turn one, which sent both cars into the concrete wall. Page’s car was done, but Knowles was able to continue.
Race officials ordered Knowles’ car to the rear of the field for the restart, but instead he protested by stopping on the track. Officials disqualified him from the event, and he faces possible suspension from competition at the speedway.
Meanwhile, Wood inherited the lead and went on to score the victory. Parrish Duncan finished in second, with Jonathan Harrell in third, Lunsford in fourth and Rob Temples in fifth.
Chris Arnett survived a caution-filled race for the Bomber division to claim his first win at Senoia Raceway in a couple of seasons. Ricky Neill, Jim Jackson, Herbie Donath and James Swanger rounded out the top five.
In the Hobby Stock feature, Randy Cornwell scored the victory, with Curtis Turner in second, Drew Larson in third, Chris Steele in fourth and Ryan Ray.
Austin Horton claimed his first Limited Late Model victory of the season with a flag to flag victory over Clifton Moran and Joey Armistead. Montana Dudley finished in fourth, with Clint Smith in fifth.
Michael Page distanced himself from the field in the B Cadet featuring, leading flag-to-flag en route to the victory. Matthew Knight, Blant Duke, Brandon Bright and Jake Traylor rounded out the top five.
J.J. Garrett claimed his third Mini-Stock win of the season, with Harold Leath finishing in second, Marc Leath in third, Rocky Johnson in fourth and Kevin Tullis in fifth.
Senoia Raceway returns to action on Saturday, April 16, fearuing racing from the Super Late Model, Limited Late Model, Crate Late Model, B Cadet, Hobby Stock and Bomber divisions, along with a visit from the Kajun Mini Stock Association.
