Week 26 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season only showed two races on the schedule, but they were big for two drivers. Kevin Sitton of Baytown, TX used his last week to earn full points a successful one, as he drove the Mirage Construction Special to his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX.

The 50-point win vaulted Sitton from the 14th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings to seventh with 677 points and a point fund paying spot. With one week left in the season, Sitton can now make his plans to attend the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet in January at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA.

The “come from out of nowhere” driver this season may be Adam Cummings of Odenville, AL. A second-place finish by Cummings on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL brought him from outside the Top 20 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, and up into the 17th spot with 618 points and one more week to earn full points. Cummings is just 39 points outside the Top 10.

If Cummings can start a main event in the 27th and final week of the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season this coming weekend, he would earn a minimum of 41 points that would bring his total to 659 points and a chance to earn a trip to Dawsonville, GA to collect a point fund check.

The top two drivers in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, National Champion Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS and the National Championship Runner-Up Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS did not compete in Week 26 action. Drivers behind Palasini in the standings did earn enough points to challenge him for the second-spot in the standings in the 27th and final week of the season.

Palasini has now clinched the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship Runner-Up spot for the third straight season. After competing in 21 races over 26 weeks, Palasini has a best 14 week total of 694 points after eight wins and 17 top five finishes driving the MP Trucking Special.

Arnold took the $10,000 title with a perfect 14 week total of 700 points after a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series single-season record of 19 wins, 24 top five finishes and 27 top ten finishes in 32 races driving The Strength Center Special.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL finished 15th on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the Skinner’s Body Shop Special, and did not net any points. Skinner is now tied with Robbie Starnes of Livingston, TX for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 689 points apiece.

Skinner has seven wins, six of which are 50-point victories, 16 top five finishes, and 20 top ten finishes in 24 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races. Starnes has six wins, four of which are 50-point wins, 21 top five finishes and 23 top ten finishes in 23 races. Skinner holds the tie-breaker advantage going into the 27th and final week of the season with more 50-point wins.

Starnes drove the Lonestar Hydro Maintenance Special to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Battleground Race Park to net one point and move into a tie with Skinner for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings. The 14-year-old Skinner also leads the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point standings for NeSmith Late Model drivers under the age of 18.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 685 points after seven wins, 14 top five finishes and 19 top ten finishes in 24 races driving the Billy Riels Racing Special. Daspit did not compete in Week 26 action.

Greg Fore of Greenville, MS traveled down to Battleground Race Park on Saturday night and drove the Washington Body Shop Rocket to a fifth-place finish. That was not good enough to net Fore any points, but he remains sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 684 points after five wins, 15 top five finishes and 19 top ten finishes in 22 races.

Behind Sitton in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings in the eighth spot is Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, who has a best 14 week total of 675 points after one win, 19 top five finishes and 21 top ten finishes in 23 races driving the Billy Riels Racing Special. Lee did not compete in Week 26 action.

The NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point leader Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 669 points after two wins, 17 top five finishes, and 20 top ten finishes in 21 races driving the Three Trade Consultants Special. Joiner did not compete in Week 26 action.

Cole Daffron of Pell City, AL rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 657 points after 13 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes in 18 races driving the TSR Race Cars Warrior. The 17-year-old driver, who is second in the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series points, finished fifth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track and was able to net one point.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 26 action, Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL drove the CRM Motors GRT to his fourth win of the season in his last six races on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.

The win by Adkins also moved four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR into a tie for the point lead with Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV with 14 wins a apiece. Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL is third with 13 wins.

CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge with seven wins and Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
