On a day filled with close racing, Susan Spikes scored her first ever Summit ET Series victory in the Super Pro finals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA on Saturday.
Spikes, herself from Commerce, GA, faced off in her ‘98 Mullis dragster, in the final round against Joe Haddon from Oxford, GA in his Chevy powered dragster. Spike ran a 5.611 ET on her 5.60 dial in at 122.68 mph with a 0.006 reaction. Haddon ran a 4.760 ET on his 4.74 dial in at 143.25 mph with a 0.004 reaction.
Mike Garland form Maysville, GA in his ’86 Mustang got his second Pro win of the year. Garland ran a 7.822 ET on his 7.78 dial in at 85.60 mph on his 0.039 reaction in the final to defeat Peter Wagner from Jefferson, GA in his ’71 Dodge. Wagner broke out trying to take the stripe. Wagner ran a 7.406 ET on his 7.43 dial in at 91.67 mph with a 0.126 reaction time.
In the Sportsman final, Dickey Forrester from Hickory Flat, GA took his ’68 Camaro to victory lane in a classic Ford vs. Chevy final against Russell Haskins from Marietta, GA in his ’94 Mustang. Forrester in the final ran a (break out) 11.965 ET on his 11.97 at 110.31 mph with a 0.032 reaction. While Haskins broke out more with a 15.059 ET on his 15.07 dial in at 92.60 mph with a better reaction of 0.004.
Points leader Tim Sutton, scored the win in Super Pro Bike. Sutton from Clermont, GA on his ’89 Suzuki, defeated David Fletcher from Lawrenceville, GA on his ‘84 Kawasaki in the final round. Sutton ran a 5.651 ET on his 5.64 dial in at 121.40 mph with a 0.018 reaction to Fletcher’s 5.545 ET on his 5.53 dial in at 123.34 mph and a reaction of 0.015.
Street ET Bike points leader, Randy Barnett, from Colbert, GA on his ’08 GSXR defeated Allen Hitt from Cartersville, GA on his ’99 Kawasaki in the division final. Barnett ran a 5.963 ET on his 5.92 dial at 110.51 mph with a 0.143 reaction time. Hitt ran a 6.843 ET on his 6.74 dial in at 104.28 mph with a reaction of 0.128.
In the 6-9 Jr. Dragster final, Stephen Skelton, age 7, won over 8-year-old Alayna Carden. Skelton, from Cleveland, GA ran a 14.353 break out run at 42.38 mph with a 0.624 reaction. Carden ran an 11.896 ET break out on her 11.95 dial in at 53.58 mph with a red light start -.012 reaction.
In the 10-12 Jr. Dragster final, 10-year-old Cannon Stiles scored the win over 12-year-old Jackson Earwood. Stiles, from Winder, GA, ran a 8.912 ET on his 8.90 dial in at 72.28 mph with a 0.074 reaction time to better Earwood, from Cleveland, GA, 8.942 (break out) 8.98 dial in at 73.75 mph with 0.064 reaction.
Chris Kittle, age15, from Oxford, GA scored the 13-17 Jr. Dragster win over 16-year-old David Brown from Covington, GA. Kittle in the final ran a 7.910 ET on his 7.90 dial in at 81.10 mph with a 0.057 reaction to Brown’s 9.116 (break out) on his 9.15 dial in at 71.11 mph with a 0.132 reaction time.
Fifteen year old Katie Wilhelm from Commerce, GA scored the Jr. Street final victory over 14-year-old Maddie Kate Halsey from Clermont, GA. Wilhelm ran a 9.299 ET (break out) on her 9.33 dial in at 79.56 mph with a 0.059 reaction to Halsey’s 10.955 ET (break out) on her 11.04 dial in at 63.67 mph with a reaction of 0.200.
