Bub McCool worked his way from his third starting spot to get his first Southern All Star win and a $10,000 payday with a win in the Governors Cup at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.
Randy Weaver jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and moved to nearly a straightaway lead over a hard fought battle that was taking place for second between Riley Hickman and McCool. On lap 41, McCool finally got ahead of Hickman and then started to run down Weaver with less than 20 laps to go.
McCool worked his way closer to Weaver each lap, and eventually made moved under Weaver down the backstretch to take over the top spot. Weaver drove away for the win, with Weaver finishing in second. Wendell Wallace, in his first Southern All Star start in five years, finished in third, with Scott Dedwylder in fourth and Billy Moyer, Jr. in fifth.
Clay Fisher, Eric Cooley, Chad Thrash, Brian Rickman and Dane Dacus rounded out the top ten.
The next event up for the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will be on Saturday night, July 25 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for the Michael Head, Jr. Memorial.
