Bowling, Pulliam Split Late Model Wins At South Boston

Points leader Matt Bowling and his nearest competitor, Lee Pulliam split wins in the CenturyLink Presents Whelen Night NASCAR Late Model twin 75-lap races Saturday night at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA.

Pulliam, of Alton, Virginia passed pole sitter Tony Keen on lap 24 and led the rest of the way in the first 75-lapper, winning his fifth race of the season by 1.774 seconds over Bobby McCarty, with Bowling, Keen and Austin Thaxton rounding out the top-five finishers.

Keen qualified on the pole with a time of 15.803 seconds (91.122 MPH) in a caution-free race.

Thaxton started on the pole after a five-car inversion in race two, but Pulliam passed for the lead on lap 23 and led until lap 28 when he went to the pits with an equipment issue.

Bowling, of Ridgeway, VA, inherited the lead and held it the rest of the way for his second win of the year, winning by3.564 seconds over Keen, with Thaxton, Dennis Holdren and Juan Garcia rounding out the top-five finishers in a race that included three cautions.

Pulliam finished 13th in race two.

Crews Pulls Away To Limited Win

Halifax driver Trey Crews won his second feature in a row and second of the season in the 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race.

Crews won the pole with a time of 16.048 seconds (89.269 MPH) and led the entire way, beating division points leader Danny Willis, Jr. by 3.670 seconds.

J.D. Eversole, Joey Throckmorton and Calvin Meadows rounded out the top-five finishers in a race that was delayed three times by cautions.

Babb Sweeps 25-Lap Modified Division Race Wins

Robbie Babb swept a pair of 25-lap Modified Division wins Saturday night.

Babb, who captured the pole with a time of 88.927 seconds, finished ahead of Matt Slye, with defending champion Jimmy Humblet, points leader Mike Rudy and Shawn Balluzzo rounding out the top-five cars in a caution-free race one.

Babb started behind Slye in a two-car inversion for race two, but he passed for the lead on lap 10 and led the rest of the race, winning by 2.214 seconds over Slye, who was second in points coming into the night.

Humblet, Rudy and Kyle Wood rounded out the top-five drivers in race two, which included one caution.

Stuart Crews Captures Win In Pure Stock Race

Stuart Crews closed the gap on points leader Greg Autry with his second win of the season in the 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock race.

The race winner qualified on the pole with a time of 18.177 seconds (79.221 MPH) and led the entire way in a race delayed one time by a caution flag.

Autry came home second, with Johnny Layne, Eric Crews and Harrison Walker rounding out the top-five finishers.

Winslow Wins Again In Hornets Race

Points leader Eric Winslow took home his fourth win of the season in the 15-lap Hornets Division race, finishing ahead of Todd Garnett.

Kenny Mills, second in points coming into the race, was third.

Racing action returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, August 1, headlined by twin 75 lap features for the Late Model Stocks. Twin 25-lap races for the Limited Sportsman Division competitors, twin 15-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a 15-lap race for the Budweiser Hornets Division round out the night’s action.
