Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL drove the Skinner’s Body Shop CVR to his fifth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
The victory moved the 13-year-old driver into the fifth spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 341 points.
Skinner has five wins, seven top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in eight races over seven weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Skinner also leads the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point standings for NeSmith Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger.
Meanwhile, points leader Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS was able to put distance between himself and the second-place driver Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL.
Arnold drove The Strength Center Special to a $1,000 victory on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS for his seventh win of the season. Arnold now has a 65-point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings over Joiner, who finished eighth on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Three Trade Consultants Special.
Arnold has 480 points with seven wins, nine top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 13 races over ten weeks of competition. Joiner has 415 points after one win, eight top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in ten NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races over nine weeks. Joiner also leads the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point standings.
Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS has been missing in action for three weeks battling kidney stone issues, but is now back in the seat of the Billy Riels Racing Special and turned in a third-place showing on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. That kept Lee in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 380 points after one win and ten top five finishes in ten races.
The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 371 points, after two wins, four top five finishes and seven top ten finishes aboard the Billy Riels Racing Special. Daspit finished sixth on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway.
Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Collinsville, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 327 points. Keeton has one win, five top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in races over seven weeks of competition. Keeton drove the Byram Trucking GRT to a sixth-place finish in Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.
Al Kouhout of Hattiesburg, MS did not compete in Week 11 action, but is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 302 points. Kouhout has six top ten finishes in seven races over seven weeks of competition.
Mike Palasini, Jr. had to deal with a situation he hasn’t had to deal with in over month on Saturday night. Palasini did not win a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model race in Week 11 competition. A second-place finish on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS did keep him in the eighth spot in the standings with 297 points after four wins and seven top five finishes in seven races over six weeks driving the MP Trucking Special.
Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 287 points after his first top ten finish of the season with a tenth-place effort on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway driving the SMJ Race Parts Trak-Star.
Robbie Starnes of Livingston, TX rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 285 points after one win, six top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in seven races over six weeks. Starnes is the point leader of Southern Crate Late Model Series after a second-place finish on Saturday night at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA driving the Lonestar Hydro and Maintenance Special.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 11 action, Kevin Sitton of Baytown, TX picked up the $1,000 win in the Southern Crate Late Model Series co-sanctioned race at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA driving the Mirage Construction Special. Dewayne Estes of Sturgis, MS ended Palasini’s win streak at four by winning on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in The Race Shop Trak-Star.
Howard Willis of Dayton, TX is working on a win streak of his own after taking his third straight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win on Saturday night at Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX driving the 41 Shocks Special. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS drove the Meridian Coca-Cola Trak-Star to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
The only Friday night show on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 11 schedule of events was rained out at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS. A total of 239 different drivers have earned points in the first 11 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge continues to tighten up as Rocket Chassis leads the standings with six wins. Skinner’s fifth win of the season has CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN in the second spot of the Chassis points with five wins.
Victories from Estes and Boyd has moved the defending and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Champ Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL into a tie for the third spot at four wins with four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
