Max Blair made his first trip to East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL a memorable one, as she scored the Crate Late Model victory in Friday’s Winternationals 2015 action.
Meanwhile, Jeff Teters dominated Friday night’s TUSA Mod Light Winternationals qualifier.
For the 35-lap Crate Late Model feature Phillip Cobb and Josh Peacock brought the field to green, with Cobb taking the early lead. Max Blair took over the lead on the very next lap.
Several cautions came throughout the race but it was the final restart with just four laps that told the tale. In the restart, Blair had Doug Horton on his back bumper and doing everything he could to get past Blair. But in the end, it was Blair crossing the finish line first in his first trip to East Bay Raceway Park.
“I’ve been coming here since a little kid to watch my dad race” Blair said. “It was very nerve racking being on the defense instead of offense with Doug Horton right behind me.”
Horton, Dave Schmauss, Shan Smith and Jack Nosbisch, Jr. rounded out the top five.
In TUSA Mod Lite action, Warren, OH’s Jeff Teeters dominated the 25-lap feature.
A first lap tangle sidelined Shane Pfeuffer and Zac Kimbrew before a lap was in the books. On the restart a battle began between Teeters on the bottom and James Hill in the top groove. Hill would take the lead on lap three but Teeters would take it back for good two laps later.
John Mollick held down the third spot with Greg Russell running fourth and Thursday night’s winner, Josh May in fifth. Jimmy Wills was on a charge in the bottom groove coming from 17th to fifth by lap nine. The yellow flew for a second time at the halfway sign when Nick Nash got around on the front straight.
On the restart, Wills shot into the second spot but the caution would fly for a third and final time as Jeff Isabell and Jimmy May tangled. Both Hill and Wills made a bid for the lead on the restart but Teeters was up for the challenge and was able to pull away in the lead.
Ty Short made it from the back of the pack climbing to fifth with seven to go. Mollick would retake the spot with three laps left. At the checkered it was Teeters by a comfortable margin over Wills. Thursday night’s winner, James Hill, put in another good run to finish in third with Russell fourth and Mollick rounding out the top five.
