BROWNSBURG, IN – Daniel Hemric made a trip north pay off Sunday afternoon, as he crossed the finish line first to score the ARCA/CRA Super Series Super Late Model victory in the CRA Fall Brawl at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, IN.
Hemric drove the Woodstock, GA based Carswell Motosrports No. 98 to his second ARCA/CRA Super Series victory of 2014 and the third overall series victory of his career.
“Wow, this is really cool to come back here and get a win,” Hemric said in victory lane. “Haven’t been back here since we won in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in 2012 and we’ve wanted to come back here for the last couple of years, but couldn’t due to scheduling conflicts.
“It is so nice to get a win here, especially for everyone at Carswell Motorsports. I was pretty down after practice yesterday. But I was reminded to have faith and we got it figured out. We made a big swing at it this morning and man did it make a world of difference. It is so good to get into victory lane. This is such a great track. I love this place.”
After fast qualifier Chad Finley drew a nine for an invert, Spencer Wauters and Rick Turner would lead the 25-car field to the green flag. Turner would beat Wauters into turns one and two to grab the early lead as the rest of the field settled in behind him.
Brian Campbell quickly worked his way up into the top four and was set to challenge the teams in front of him when he suddenly darted right and slapped the turn three wall ending his afternoon on lap 10. On the restart, Hemric began following the tire tracks of Turner all over the massive speed plant. Hemric tried every trick in his arsenal to get by the crafty veteran, but Turner was up to the challenge in the early stages of the race.
Finally on lap 39, Hemric made the winning pass stick on the inside lane coming out of turn two. He would completely clear Turner a lap later and would try to pull away from the rest of the field. Paul Shafer, Jr. was having a career race as he worked his way up to second and was looking to take on Hemric for the lead. However, he had current points leader Travis Braden all over him for the runner-up spot.
As Shafer, Jr. and Braden battled, Hemric pulled away from the rest of the pack and would go on to score the victory and a second pair of CRA Fall Brawl Boxing Gloves in addition to the Five-Foot Trophy. Shafer, Jr. finished in second, with Chad Finley in third, Ross Kenseth in fourth and Travis Braden in fifth.
