HAMPTON, GA – Bragging rights were on the line at the pit lane drag strip in week 1 of the Fall Stamped of O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags and Show ‘N’ Shine at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Ed Blanford of McDonough earned his first win of the season in the Truck division in his 1968 Ford F-100 as he defeated James Ragsdale of Union City behind the wheel of 1979 Ford F-100.
“I’ve been after that old red truck all season,” said a thrilled Blanford following the win. “I changed my gears on the rear-end and barely hit drive as I was crossing the eighth of a mile.”
Blanford had twice advanced to the semi-finals this season but prior to the Fall Stampede had not made it to victory lane.
“Friday Night drags are a whole lot of fun,” said Blanford. “It’s close to home and there are a lot of people out here that makes it good, simple, easy fun.”
Jalary Roges of Jonesboro also made his first trip of the season to victory lane with a win in his 1992 Honda Civic in the Sport Compact division. Roges edged out the 1995 Honda Civic of Damon Waldrop in the final.
Other notable winners in the first week of the Fall Stampede include Billy Clevenger of Jonesboro in the Jailhouse brewing Company Super Pro division and Andrew Morgan of McDonough in the Harding Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Domestic Division.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags will return to the pit lane drag strip for the final week of the 2014 season and the second week of the Fall Stampede at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sept. 19.
