HAMPTON, GA – The competition was fierce as points races in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags brought competitors out to the pit lane drag strip at Atlanta Motor Speedway under a clearing night sky.

It was a family affair in the Harding Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Domestic class final as Andrew Morgan of McDonough in a 1987 Ford Mustang was quicker off the start line than his father Kelly Morgan of Jonesboro behind the wheel of a 1968 Ford Mustang.

“It was real fun racing against (my) dad,” said Andrew Morgan. “The car planted and went. It was probably one of the best lights I’ve cut out here.”

The Diesel Truck class final pitted the husband and wife pair of Dwayne and Ramae Bethune of Covington against one another. In a 2006 Dodge 2500, Dwayne was able to out muscle Ramae in a 2012 Dodge 2500 for the win. Despite the loss in the final, Ramae leads the Diesel Truck class with six points.

Will Coots of Stockbridge in a 1985 Chevrolet C10 pushed his lead to two points in the Truck Advance class as he posted his second consecutive points win in the final over the 1982 Chevrolet Pick-Up truck piloted by Keith White of Luthersville.

“I think we’ve got a good truck that will be hard to beat,” said Coots. “We are going to have some real good racing this year.”

Coots, who was concerned about facing the “Nuclear Banana” of Danny Mason of Locust Grove in Week Three, earned a round two win over the vehicle in Week four action.

“I was worried about them this week too,” said Coots, “but, I had a good run against them.”

Arnie Cobb of Locust Grove, behind the wheel of his 1974 Chevrolet Nova, exploded off the line to earn the win for the second consecutive week in the final over the 1986 Ford Thunderbird of Tony Byrd of Stockbridge to extend his points lead to two in the Jailhouse Brewing Company Super Pro class.

Drag racers will again take to the pit lane drag strip at Atlanta Motor Speedway for Week 5 of O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags on Friday, June 13.
