CARTERSVILLE, GA – Cody Smith of Holt, FL picked up his fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL driving the Smith’s Performance Rocket in a race co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series.
Meanwhile, Mother Nature played a major role in reshuffling the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 10 competition, as some drivers were able to race, while others were rained out. Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL remains the point leader despite not being able to race this weekend.
Week 10 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season was billed as the busiest week of racing in the nine-year history of the series with 20 races in nine different states on the schedule of events. Of those 20 races, 13 of them didn’t happen from Thursday through Saturday due to the rain.
Two of the seven races that got in were on Monday night, with one race held on out of a scheduled five on Friday night, and four of a scheduled 11 races were held on Saturday night in Week 10 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season.
Gauldin leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 433 points after two wins, eight top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in ten races over nine weeks driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT. Gauldin still holds a nine point lead over Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS, who also was unable to turn a wheel on his Robinson Electric Supply Special in Week 10 action.
Bridgmon has two wins, eight top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in ten races over nine weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is still third in the standings with 402 points after two wins and nine top five finishes in 12 races over nine weeks. Lee also was unable to compete in Week 10 action due to the weather.
Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN moved up to the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 396 points after one win, ten top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 11 races over nine weeks. Cooper was able to race twice in Week 10 competition, and his best point night came on Saturday with a fifth-place finish at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN driving the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket.
Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL dropped to fifth in the standings, as the 12-year-driver did not race in Week 10 competition. Skinner has 393 points after three top five finishes and six top ten finishes in 11 races over nine weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition in the Skinner Body Shop Special.
Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 10 action and dropped to sixth in the standings with 386 points. Sanchagrin has one top five finish and five top ten finishes in ten races over nine weeks in the Permanent Exterior Solutions Trak-Star.
The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS got in two races in Week 10 competition, and has landed in the top ten of the point standings for the first time this season.
Daspit is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 383 points after four wins and eight top five finishes in nine races over eight weeks in the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star. “The Iceman” turned in a fifth-place finish in Week 10 action on Monday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.
Mike Combs of Odenville, AL had the rain leaving his Pro-Grafx Special in the garage for the weekend and dropped him down to eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series with 369 points. Combs has competed nine races over eight weeks with one win, four top five finishes and nine top ten finishes.
Bronson Berry of Huntingdon, TN drove the Garner Brothers Farms Special to his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Camden Speedway to move up to the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 351 points. Berry has three wins and nine top five finishes in nine races over eight weeks.
Chris Holley of Dayton, TX was also rained out in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 10 competition, and dropped to tenth in the standings with 349 points. That total represents six 50-point wins and one second place finish in seven races over seven weeks driving the Land Bridge Transportation Special.
Among the other drivers that beat the weather and posted NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 10 victories was Stephen Brantley of Monroeville, AL who drove the Airport Sport Sales Trak-Star to the win on Monday night at Flomaton Speedway in a race co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series.
Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN turned in his fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Monday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN driving the Greg’s Sawmill Special. Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS drove the BSB Manufacturing Special his second win of the season on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.
Greg Martin of Oliver Springs, TN grabbed the $1,000 top prize on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN driving the Biff Motorsports CVR. Martin was one of 16 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers tuning up for the $4,000-to-win 3rd Annual J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 at 411 Motor Speedway this Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division.
Robby Moore of Brosley, MO drove the Moore Race Fab Trak-Star to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO.
The long list of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 10 events began on Thursday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Keeping wet company on Friday night were Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS and Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL.
Rained out Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 10 events were Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, and for a second time during the week, Talladega Short Track.
Officials at both Greenville Speedway and Jackson Motor Speedway have announced they will be running Double Feature Races this Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division. One race will be a Week 10 Make-Up Race with points for that week awarded, and the regularly scheduled Week 11 event.
