It’s a rare treat for fans at Montgomery Motor Speedway to see motorcycles racing at the historic Montgomery, AL half mile speedway. But that’s just what they got Saturday night, as Robert McClendon topped a strong field of two-wheel warriors with sparks flying as pegs scraped the asphalt through the turns.

It didn’t come easy for McClendon, as he had Davo Majzun nipping at his heels. The 2 battled for the top spot for the entire 15 lap feature, with Majzun having to settle for second at the checkered flag. Jeremy Dean ran a strong third with Nicholas Nguyn finishing in fourth.

In other action, Lance Campbell jumped out to the early lead in the Mini Modifieds feature, would hold the point until lap five when 2013 track champion Joel Collier gained the top spot and never looked back. Lance Campbell was flagged in second, but gave up the spot when he failed post race inspection. That moved Heath Williams to second, with Chris Laders in third.

Chance Atkins muscled his way to the early lead in the Street Stocks feature, a position he would hold until lap seven, when Perry Patino moved to the top spot. The race went caution free, seeing the tires on Patino’s car heat up with ever lap. On lap 21, Atkins moved to the inside of the leader, and the two raced side by side over the closing laps, swapping the lead back and forth. On the final lap, Patino was able to push his way back out front to score his second victory of 2014. Atkins finished in second, with Adam Freeman in third, Dwayne Wesenberg in fourth and Joe Bethea, Jr. in fifth.

Jason Furrow jumped out to the lead on the opening lap of the Open Sportsman feature, a position he would hold until the caution flew on lap five. The caution would fly again a lap later. On the lap six restart, Gary Sanford, Jr. would move into the lead. He would hold that spot through several yellow flags, but with two laps to go, Justin Caton pushed his way to the lead, and to the victory. Sanford, Jr. finished in second, with Jason Furrow in third, Larry Speakman in fourth and Shelby Reuse in fifth.

Mongtomery Motor Speedway returns to action on May 10, as the track hosts the Southern Super Series for a 125 lap feature. For more info, visit montgomerymotorspeedway.org.
