Keith Nosbish charged to the lead on lap seven in the Topless Late Model feature at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL Saturday night, and would go on to score the victory in the track’s season finale.
Keith Nosbisch, Dave Schmauss, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Doug Horton started out the night with heat race victories. Mark Haase and Doug Watson would make up the front row for the feature.
After a series of incidents delayed the start of the race, Watson would jump out to the early lead, with Josh Peacock and Mark Haase in pursuit. Meanwhile, Keith Nosbisch was on the charge from the seventh position, and on lap seven, he would sweep into the lead.
After a lap 11 caution, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. would move to second, with Watson third. Warsno’s shot at the win from third went away with a turn two spin with 20 laps to go.
Back under green, Kyle Bronson moved to second, and was looking to chase down the leader. But Keith Nosbisch was not to be denied, as he went on to score the victory. Bronson finished in second, with Horton in third, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. in fourth and Josh Peacock in fifth. A sixth place finish by Dave Schmauss gave him the 2013 Late Model championship.
But on lap thirty it would be Watson spinning on his own in turn two and having to go to the rear of the field. Top five on lap thirty would be Nosbisch, Nosbisch, Jr., Doug Horton, Kyle Bronson after starting dead last had moved up to fourth with Josh Peacock now fifth. On lap forty Bronson had now made his way up to second trying to chase down Nosbisch but was not able to track down “The Catfish” as Keith Nosbisch went on to win back to back Topless events as he also won last year’s event. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Bronson, Doug Horton, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Josh Peacock. Finishing in the sixth position and would be the new 2013 Late Model Champion was Dave Schmauss.
In other action, Brittany Yates and Zach Amundsen scored the heat race wins for the Outlaw Fours, with Jesse James Foster and Billy Howard making up the front row for the feature. Foster would take the early lead, only to see it go away on lap four when Don T. Quinn spun in turn two. Back under green, Howard saw his race go away when he slowed on the front stretch bringing out the second caution of the night. On the restart, Foster held the lead briefly until Yates powered by, but that lead change would be revered when the caution came out before the completin of a lap. On the restart Foster and Yates battled side by side, with Yates taking control on lap seven. She would go on to win her first feature of the year. Foster’s second place finish gave him the 2013 Points championship. Finishing third would be Brandon Yates finished in third, with Zach Amundsen in fourth and Jake Hampton in fifth.
The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks feature would be next. On the initial start several cars tangled on the front stretch, setting up a complete restart. When the green waved it was Dennis Wilson, Jr. leading the way with Tim Gay and Jeff Rodgers trailing behind him. On lap four Tim Gay would see his four race win streak snapped as he slowed and headed to the infield. Wilson, Jr. went on to win the feature and pick up the division championship. William Burnside, Buck Woodhouse, Thomas Burnside and Roy Woodhouse rounded out the top five.
Next up were the Florida Old Time Modifieds. Dan Darnell scored the heat win, with Charlie Mixson and Richard Svenson making up the front row. Roger Herbach would take the lead on lap two, and would battle with David Kelly during the feature for the lead. Herbach would surge back to the lead, late, and would go on to score the victory. Jamie Franklin finished second, with Dan Darnell in third, Tom McDonald in fourth and Steve Campbell in fifth.
The V8 Warriors were next, as Jessica Robbins and Marco Reyes won their heats, and Brett Phillips and Jeff Weaver made up the front row. Weaver would jump out front early and hold off a hard charging Raymond Vann to score the win and the division title. Jessica Robbins finished in second after Vann failed post race tech, with Don Foligno in third, Brett Phillips in fourth and Tim Stoffel in fifth.
The final feature of the night went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Winning their heats were Wayne Kissam, Darrell Taylor and Brett Calonge. Gary Lucas and George Handy made up the front row for the feature and when the green waved Handy quickly jumped out in to the lead. Handy would lead the way as Wayne Kissam made his way up to second after starting from the sixth position. Handy and Kissam would continue to battle throughout the race as the only caution came with just one lap to go. Handy led the way on the final restart and went on to win the feature with Wayne Kissam, Darrell Taylor, Patrick Fiore, Sr. and Jimmy Baker rounding out the top five. John Moore won the championship for the division.
