Roger Crouse moved out front on lap 50 of the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modified feature at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL Saturday night, and motored away to score the win in the David Reutimann Foundation 50.
Buzzie Reutimann, Crouse and Devin Dixon opened up the night with wins in their respective heats, while Rich Pratt and Jason Gross would make up the front row for the feature.
Gross would lead the first lap until John Bradley went up in smoke on the front stretch, drawing the caution. Back under green, Gross would hold the lead until David Reutimann spun over in turn two. Reutimann went to the pits but made it out in time before the feature restarted.
On the restart Gross led with Crouse and Pratt giving chase. Crouse would take over the lead on lap seven, while Pratt spun in turn one to bring out another caution. A final caution on lap 10 would set up a 40 lap dash to the finish as no other cautions would come out.
Crouse had to maneuver lap traffic with Dixon in pursuit. But there was no catching Crouse as he went on to score the victory. Devin Dixon finished in second, with Buzzie Reutimann in third, Austin Sanders in fourth and Matt Miller in fifth.
In other action, the Outlaws Fours ran the first feature of the night, as Nick Hebrank and Billy Howard won their heat races. On the front row for the feature it would be Eric Knight and Brittany Yates. When the green waved, Knight quickly took the lead until caution came out on lap two when Jake Hampton spun in turn one. Knight again led the field on the restart, and held the spot until the next caution on lap six as Don R. Quinn slowed in turn four. On the restart, second place runner Brandon Yates spun to bring out another yellow. Knight saw strong challenges from Billy Howard and Brittany Yates on the restart, but it was Knight slipping away to score his first feature victory. Jesse James Foster finished in second, followed by Brittany Yates in third, Brandon Yates in fourth and Billy Howard in fifth.
Next up were the Late Models. Twenty two cars were on hand as Travis Varnadore, Josh Peacock and Phillip Cobb won their heats. Mavrick Varnadore and Doug Horton would make up the front row for the feature. But before the feature went green, Varnadore pulled into the pits with a broken ladder bar. That moved Shan Smith up to the pole alongside Horton. When the green waved it was Horton leading the first five laps until caution came out for a spin by Henry Burnside in turn four. On the restart, Keith Nosbisch charged past Horton for the lead. The caution flew again on lap 10 when Jack Nosbisch, Jr. went around in turn two. Several more cautions would come throughout the race as Keith Nosbisch went on to pick up his seventh feature of the year. Doug Horton, Doug Watson, Phillip Cobb and Shan Smith rounded out the top five.
The V8 Warriors were next with Derek Gray and Marco Reyes winning their heats. Don Foligno and Bill Whitney would make up the front row for the feature. On lap one it was Reyes taking the lead. He would hold the top spot the rest of the way, as the feature ran caution free with Reyes scoring the win. Bill Whitney finished in second, with Don Foligno third, Derek Gray fourth and Jeff Weaver in fifth.
The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks wrapped up the night with the final feature. Winning their heats were Trent Wilson and Buck Woodhouse. Brian Morgan and Ronnie Heard would start on the front row of the feature event. Morgan quickly took the lead, and would stay there until the race was slowed on lap three when Michael Eaton spun in turn four. Caution flew again on lap six when Justan Rodgers spun in turn two. Morgan went on to win the feature and also won the Hunger Run, a four race series picking up an extra $1,000 for his efforts. Buck Woodhouse finished in second, followed by Trent Wilson, Tommy Hill and William Burnside.
ASA racing continues next weekend with the Limited Late Models, Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the V8 Warriors. The Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints will be racing for $1,000 to win. For further information, visit eastbayracewaypark.com.
