Mark Day jumped out to the early lead, and went largely unchallenged over the next 100 laps to score the Pro Late Model season finale as part of the All American 400 weekend at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, TN Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Tucker Wingo took advantage of a late race spin by points leader Sterling Marlin to snatch away the division title with a third place finish.
Day jumped out to the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Chase Chaffin and Dillon Oliver in pursuit.
The first caution of the night flew on lap one, when Craig Bell spun in turn four, bringing out the yellow flag.
Back under green, Day continued to lead, with Chaffin and Oliver following in his tire tracks. Jake Griffin would break up the lead pack by moving around Oliver to pick up third place.
The caution flew again a few laps later with a big shunt off turn four, that saw Brett Holmes’ car get airborne, hitting the inside wall on the frontstretch. Cole Rouse and Mike Murray were also gathered up in the accident. Everybody was okay.
On the restart, Day again moved to the lead, while Griffin made the move around Chaffin for second.
Meanwhile, Wingo was looking to better his chance of winning the championship. On lap 26, he moved his No. 88 around Chaffin to move into third place.
Back behind the leaders, Marlin worked his way through the field, as the two-time Daytona 500 champion worked to try to score his fourth Nashville track championship. He needed only to finish within four spots of Wingo to take the title.
On lap 48, Marlin would move to fifth, and then moved to fourth just after the halfway point of the 100 lap race.
Caution flew again on lap 65, when the car of Chaz Chaffin made contact with the frontstretch wall.
Day, Weston and Wingo continued to pace the field on the restart. Marlin, however, began to slip back into the field, and found himself racing side-by-side with Dillon Oliver.
That’s when the wheels came off for Marlin. While running on the outside of Oliver in turn one on lap 76, Oliver’s car kicked out, and making contact with Marlin’s No. 40. Marlin spun around in turn two, coming to rest in the bottom groove while Hunter Baize spun to avoid him. Marlin was able to drive away, but his championship hopes took a hard hit.
Back under green, Day continued to lead Weston and Wingo. Marlin tried to push his way forward, but got no higher than 11th.
Meanwhile, Day held off a late charge from Weston, but put daylight between himself and second place over the closing laps to score the victory. Weston finished second.
