United Sprint Car Series national points leader Derek Hagar from Marion, AR charged to his 10th USCS feature win of the 2013 season on Saturday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO during the winged sprint car portion of the 13th annual Cotton Boll Cup.
Hagar, who started from the K&N Filters Pole Position, led every lap of the main event around the high speed 3/8 mile clay oval. Hagar held off the pressure of Terry Gray for the first 18 eighteen laps, and then fended off the charge of Tim Crawley over the final 12 caution-free laps for the win.
Crawley crossed the finish line in the runner-up position behind the 22-year old 2006 USCS Rookie of the Year (Hagar) and the veteran with Gray in third place. Morgan Turpen charged her way from eighth starting position to finish in fourth place. Jerod Roller finished in fifth place after starting seventh.
Anthony Nicholson finished ahead of the next group of drivers in sixth place. Lee Sowell finished in the seventh position. Marshall Skinner followed in eighth place. Curt Terrell followed in ninth place and Brandon Hanks completed the top ten.
Gray won the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash. Sowell won the first heat. Gray won the second heat.
In other action, second year 600 Mini Sprint racer Jordan Latham from Sharon Grove KY captured his third series win of the 2013 season and second of the weekend on Saturday night.
Latham raced from his K&N Pole Award starting position into the lead on lap one of the 15-lap main event and went on to score the win. Sean Hosey finished in the runner up spot. B.J. Gatewood finished in third place. Tyler Price finished in fourth place in the main event. Chris Wright rounded out the top five finishers.
Gatewood won the five-lap Hoosier Race Tire Speed Dash for this event. Jordon Latham won the qualifying heat. Eventual feature winner Latham won the second heat.
The next USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint car event will the two-day 5th annual USCS Fall Nationals series season finale at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas on November 1 and 2.
