Marty Ward held off a field of hard charges Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway to score the win in the Southeast SuperTruck Series season finale, while Kenneth Headen came back from a late race spin to win his second straight series championship.

Lee Tissot jumped out to the early lead on the drop of the green flag, with Marty Ward and Kevin Leicht giving chase. Headen, meanwhile settled into a top five position early.

Ward would move to the lead on lap five, a positions he would hold for the rest of the 75-lap feature, with Tissot, with Leicht slipping past Tissot for second.

The night was filled with cautions, including one on lap 15 for a spin by Taylor Nesbitt. A few laps later, Nesbitt went around again, with Mike Smith and Kevin Brookshire also involved.

Caution flew again a few laps later for a multi-truck incident in turn two involving Nesbitt, Mike Smith, and Kevin Brookshire.

On the restart, Leicht looked for daylight around Ward, but Ward had too much muscle for him, and held on to the top spot as the top three ran nose-to-tail. While Ward began to move away from the field, Headen moved up to fourth, and was looking to move further forward when the caution flew again on lap 23, when Smith went around again in turn two.

A spin by Brookshire and Scottie Thomas in turn four nearly spelled disaster for Headen when both trucks came to rest in the middle of the track, sending the leaders scattering. Headen locked down the breaks, just missing the stationary trucks. He was able to avoid them, and held his position on the next restart.

The excitement for Headen was far from over, as he raced for second with championship challenger Kevin Leicht coming to 25 to go. The two made contact coming off turn two, with Headen taking the positions. But going into three, Leicht dumped the points leader, sending Headen around and drawing the caution. Both drivers were able to continue, with Headen suffering passenger’s side damage, while Leicht came away with front end damage that would eventually end his night.

While Ward and Tissot battled side by side for the lead, Headen made up for lost time, quickly pulling his way into the top five as the laps wound down.

Ward would go on to score the victory, with Tim Lollis moving to second, Headen finishing in third, Tissot in fourth, and Austin Northcutt in fifth.

In other action, the night started with the BM Modifieds feature. On the drop of the green, Chuck Mitchell and Casey Tucker battled side by side until Mitchell powered his way to the lead. Lance Jones moved into third, and worked his way to Tucker’s back bumper. Meanwhile, Mitchell moved away from the pack. That’s right where he would stay until the end, as he led wire-to-wire to score the victory. Tucker finished in second, with Jones in third, Tim Stokes in fourth, and Shon Gibson in fifth.

The Mini Stock feature was next, with Chad Campbell in the 17 and B.J. Thrasher in Ken Candiotti’s No. 19 doing battle on the opening lap. But the fight is broken up when David Darnell went around off the front bumper of Shaun Mize in turn four, bringing out the caution. Darnell made contact with the inside wall, and had to head to pit road for repairs before rejoining the race.

Thrasher got a run on the inside of Campbell in turn three on lap six. Campbell pushed up high off turn four, allowing Thrasher to move to the top spot.

As the laps wound down, Darnell moved his way to second as he rebounded from his early spin. Darnell would try hard to make his way around the leader on the final lap, but he couldn’t make it happen as Thrasher scored the victory. Darnell finished in second, with Campbell in third, Mark Timmerman in fourth, and Roach in fifth.

The Evergreen Renegades did battle in a 40 lap, $500 to win feature. On the drop of the green, Greg Darnell jumped out to the early lead, with Chad Watt and Bryan Beckner in tow. Robin Darnell would make his way past Beckner for third. Meanwhile, Watt was looking for first, and moved alongside Greg Darnell as the two raced side-by-side.

The caution flew on lap three when Jonathan Ragsdale’s engine detonated going into turn three, laying down a path of oil through turns three and four. Race officials threw the red flag to allow for clean up.

Back under green, Greg Darnell holds off Watt for the lead while Steve Guthrie moves to third. A few laps later, Gutherie would move to the top spot, and would go on to lead the rest of the way, being flagged the winner. But he lost the race in post race tech, as he was disqualified. That moved Robin Darnell to the win, with Blake Gregory in second, Greg Darnell in third, Charles Sutton in fourth and Parker Jameson in fifth.

The Super Renegades were up next. James Johnson and Rick Kelly did battle off the start, with the duo making contact in turn four. Johnson went around, with Kelly coming away with front end damage.

On the restart, Don Morgan moved to the lead, with Chris Harvell and David Whitaker in pursuit. It would only take four laps for Johnson to power his way back to the lead. While Johnson moved away from the pack, Kelley was also moved his way back through the pack, eventually moving back to the second position. Johnson would drive on to score the win, with Kelly in second, Morgan in third, Harvell in fourth and Whitaker in fifth.

The Front Wheel Drives wrapped up the night, with Brian King moving past Joey Kelly in the opening laps to take the lead. B.J. Davis moved to third as the field shook out.

Davis powered his way to the front of the pack, and that’s just where he would stay to the end, as he collected the victory. Tommy Davis finished in second, with C.J. Huitt, Donovan Beacham and Robert Hall rounding out the top five.
