Madden Nets $5,000 Ultimate SLM Win At Lavonia

Chris Madden charged out front from the drop of the green flag, and led every lap en route to a $5,000 pay day with the Ultimate Super Late Model victory in the Georgia State Championships at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, GA, Saturday night.

Madden led early competitors Casey Roberts and Riley Hickman over the opening laps. Roberts and Hickman would fight several times to determine who would give chase to the leader. Dillon Wood also moved his way towards the front, stalking the leaders through several cautions as the race unfolded.

Hickman would see his shot at the win see a major setback when he spun coming off turn four, while Benji Cole backed into the turn three wall at the same time, bringing out the caution.

While Madden continued to dominate the event, Roberts found himself under fire again, this time from Dillon Wood. The two would trade paint, but Roberts was able to hang onto the position.

But up front, there was no catching Madden, as he powered away to the victory. Roberts finished in second, with Wood in third, Chris Ferguson in fourth, and Jeff Smith in fifth.

The Southeastern Late Model Sportsman was also in action Saturday night. On the drop of the green, David McCoy tried to jump out front, but slipped off turn two, allowing J.R. Headen and Jimmy Johnson to slip past.

Johnson moved to the front a few laps later with a power move on Headen on the outside in turns one and two, clearing him going down the backstretch. Headen tried to pull off a crossover move in turn three, but spun around, gathering up two other cars in the process, bringing out the caution.

On the restart, McCoy and Johnson raced side-by-side through turns one and two, with McCoy looking for an advantage. But Johnson had horsepower on his side, and drove back to the lead in turns three and four.

Johnson would drive away to score the victory. McCoy finished in second, with Russell in third, Jordy Nipper driving fourth and Randy Dillard in fifth.

Trouble broke out early, as several cars tangled in turn four, leaving the track blocked as cars continued to pile into the melee. In Modified Street action, Tracy Parnell jumped out to the early lead, with Clifton Snow and Tracy Addison giving chase. While Parnell held the lead, Rusty Jordan moved his way up to second and worked to try to chase down the leader. When the checkered flag flew, it was Parnell being flagged the winner.

But Parnell didn’t pass post-race tech, handing the win to Jordan. Addison moved to second, with Snow in third, Greg Scoggins in fourth, and Scott Galloway in fifth.

James Simpson and George Reese slugged it out for the early lead in the Hobby Stocks feature, with Simpson coming away with the top spot.

After several cautions, Sellers was able to get a run on Simpson for the lead. He got the run on the inside off turn four, but the leaders ran out of room, making contact on the front stretch. Both cars spun going into turn one, with Sellers making hard contact with the inside guardrail. Sellers was okay, but his night was over. Simpson was able to drive away.

That moved George Reese to the lead, a spot he would hold the rest of the way to score the victory. Daniel Fowler, Brad Russell, Buddy Berry and Freeman rounding out the top five.
