NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion Lee Pulliam capped his championship season at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA with a win in Saturday night’s GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Co. 150 NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division race.
The Semora, NC resident led all but one lap of the 150-lap race and sped to a 2.714-second win over runner-up Justin Snow of Danville, VA in a 33-lap dash to the finish that followed the last of the race’s three caution periods.
Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, VA finished third and took the runner-up spot in the track Late Model Stock Car Division points chase. Blake Stallings of Danville, VA finished fourth and Josh Oakley of Rougemont, NC rounded out the top five finishers.
Pulliam had already clinched the South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division title prior to Saturday night’s win, which ran his season win total at South Boston Speedway to 16. Saturday night’s win was Pulliam’s 27th win overall for the season.
The first-time South Boston Speedway champion averaged 74.052 mph in the race that was slowed by three caution periods that consumed a total of 13 laps.
Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, VA celebrated his second South Boston Speedway Limited Sportsman Division championship in three years Saturday night by winning the track’s 50-lap season finale for the division.
Willis started on the pole and led the entire race, edging runner-up Blake Stallings of Danville, VA by 1.581-seconds in the caution-free race.
Michael Maresca of Hannawa Falls, NY finished third, with Caleb Davis of Thaxton, VA and Garrett Bunch of Front Royal, VA completing the top five finishers.
Stuart Crews of Long Island, VA won Saturday night’s 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division to score his first win of the season and Joe Allred III of Scottsburg won the division championship.

Sixteen-year-old Tanner Rumburg of Beaverdam, VA captured the South Boston Speedway Modified Division championship Saturday night with his fifth-place finish in the night’s 50-lap race for the division.
Matt Slye of Lanexa, VA won the race, taking the lead from early leader Jimmy Humblet on the third lap after Humblet was penalized for jumping the start of the race. Humblet, of Shiloh, NC battled back to finish second, with Joe Scarbrough of Charles City, VA taking third place and Chris Johnson of Mechanicsville, VA finishing fourth.
Garland Ricketts of South Boston, VA won the 20-lap race for the competitors of the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.
Ricketts started on the outside pole, took the lead on the first lap and led the entire race. Bill Blair of Thomasville, NC finished second and Harry Hale of Wirtz, VA finished third.
Hale was the Sportsman Division winner.
