After losing the last two weeks of racing to rain like most racetracks in Georgia, Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA welcomed the sunshine as well as the USCS Sprint and Mini Sprint series Saturday night to a big crowd and over 100 racecars in the pits for a full night of racing.

After two previous rain outs, the USCS Sprint cars finally took to the racetrack for their feature. Derek Hagar of Marion, Arkansas grabbed the lead from the start and never looked back to take his ninth feature win of the 2013. Eric Riggins, Jr. gave chase in second but at no time threatened for the lead. Terry Gray followed in third with Jeff Willingham and Lee Moore completing the top five.

Brandon Taylor, of Cumming, GA took the initial lead in the Mini Sprint feature, holding off Sean Hosey until lap 11, when Hosey took the lead and held it to the finish. Winder, GA’s Mike Magic put the pressure on Taylor and finally was able to pass for the second spot bringing Bobby Zaiontz along to grab third. Taylor held on for a fourth place finish, trailed by Bob Trapino in fifth.

Jake Knowles and Jason Croft gave the fans a show in the Super Late Model feature, as both drivers staged a side by side battle for first and never once touching each other. Knowles took the lead for good on lap 10 and went on for his first win this season. Croft held off Doug Stevens for second with Donald McIntosh and Dale Thurman rounding out the top five.

Scottie Pritchett went on for his fourth win of the season in the Limited Late Model feature. Dillon Wood made the pass on Alan Brewer on lap 13 for second, leaving Brewer to settle for third. Completing fourth and fifth were Chris Fennell and Don Jenkins.

With the largest starting field thus far this season, the Super Bombers took the green and when the sparks settled, Richard Bagby found himself with another win when the initial winner refused to teardown after being protested. This moved everyone up one position with Daniel Brewer, Randall Powell, Ted Minnix, and Jessie O’Shields finishing second through fifth.

Cartersville’s Kyle Beavers took his first career win in the Economy Bomber division as he worked his way from the seventh starting spot in the early laps to take the lead. Beavers held off a strong challenge by Doug Hopson at the checkered flag as Shane Smith followed in third. Carl Richards and Stacey Duran rounded out the top five.

Jamie Cross found his way back to victory lane in the Pony Stock feature after a seven week absence. Following Cross at the finish were John Land, Bo Jordan, David Kirkland, and Charles Whitmire.

The Cruiser and Crate Late Model feature were postponed due to the track’s curfew after a major crash on lap two of the Crate feature sent two drivers to the hospital with injuries, forcing a stop to the racing.

Scott Schofield airlifted to Kennestone Hospital with two broken wrists, ankle and foot. Schofield received surgery to repair the injuries and as expected to recover, but will be layed up for several months. Joey Armistead also broke a foot in the incident, suffering clean breaks in his foot not requiring surgery but will be in a cast for a few weeks.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 31, with a full race program, plus $1,000 bonus on the line for any Super Late Model driver who can sweep both features at Dixie and at Rome Speedway. For more info, visit dixiespeedway.com.
