The Back to School 250 at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC was all about the kids and the excitement of the series getting to hit the track successfully after getting washed out earlier this season in May, with J.P. Morgan picking up his first X-1R Pro Cup Series victory of 2013.
Despite a short rain-delay, the Pro Cup Series was able to wrap up qualifying by 8:30 and get the main event underway by 9 pm. Meanwhile Caleb Holman, winner of the past two Pro Cup races, started on the pole and led the first 75 laps before current points leader Clay overtook him.
The anticipation among drivers to go racing was evident early on in the event with the yellow flag waving early and often. Dalton Hopkins brought out the first caution of the night on lap seven after he slowed on track with a rear end issues. With the tight racing that the Anderson Motor Speedway produces, cars spinning and contact between drivers were the theme of the night.
Reid Wilson spun twice through-out the race. The first spin occurred on lap 27 with the help of Morgan, with the second occurring on lap 41, as he went around on his own. Morgan did apologize to Wilson after the race.
The mid-way point redraw of the top eight drivers put Holman in the lead, and sent halfway leader Rogers to fourth with Boswell, Dean, and Young completing the top-five. Morgan restarted sixth and Wilson, who spun twice throughout the race, was able to restart in seventh position.
The final caution of the night was on lap 208 for a spin buy Rusty Skewes in turn four. This allowed Morgan to catch up to Rogers and take the lead from him on the restart. Morgan went on to win. Rogers finished in second, with Tyler Young in third, Brady Boswell in fourth, and Gus Dean in fifth.
In other action, Riley Halverson beat out the field to score the US Legends feature. William Plemmons finished in second, with Rodney Tharp in third, Karl Mosberg in fourth, and Andrew Brown in fifth.
Tommy Davis topped the Front Wheel drive field to score the feature victory. B.J. Davis rolled across in second, with Joey Kelly in third, Brian King in fourth, and Donovan Beacham in fifth.
