Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco officials announced Wednesday the addition of a points event to their inaugural season on September 7, 2013 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Tennessee.

The newly added September 7 date will be held in conjunction with the Tennessee State Fair, which will give fans an event full of action and thrills at the Fairgrounds.

“We look forward to the addition of the September 7 date to our schedule and the Southern Super Series schedule,” said Tony Formosa, Promoter of Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. “It is going to be really special because it’s going to give fans the opportunity to go to the Fair and see the Southern Super Series race for just $8.

“Fans can go to any Kroger in the Nashville area and get a $4 discount coupon, bring it to the State Fair and you can use that to see the races and go to the fair for $8 instead of $12. It’s really a remarkable deal to get that much action for your money and I think it’s something our locals are really going to enjoy.”

The event will return the inaugural Southern Super Series schedule to 16 races. Rain forced Gresham Motorsports Park officials to reschedule the July 4 Slack Auto Parts World Crown 300 for an already-scheduled SSS event date at the Jefferson, Georgia track on August 10.

“After talking with Jim Gresham (track owner), Jeff Freeman (of Hoosier Tire South), Tim Bryant (promoter at SSS tracks Five Flags and Mobile Speedways) and others that would be affected by a date change, we could not find a date that worked for us,” said Dan Elliott, General Manager of Gresham Motorsports Park. “Whether it was because of football in late August and into the fall or other tracks and series, there were no viable options for us to reschedule the date lost to the World Crown make-up.

There is no easy way to do this at the middle part of the season because everyone has big races at the end of the year already scheduled. With Nashville taking that September 7 date that we could not do, it will help all the Southern Super Series teams fill out their schedules. We are already looking at doing more Southern Super Series races next year and we don’t want anyone thinking there are any other reasons for us not rescheduling our race.”

The addition of the September 7 date at Nashville to the Southern Super Series Schedule will mark the first of two more stops remaining on the series’ schedule at the historic fairgrounds facility. The September 7 race will serve as the precursor to the 29th Annual All American 400 on November 1 and 2, the final point event for the Southern Super Series.

“We look forward to having two more Southern Super Series events this season at the Fairgrounds,” added Formosa. “The first race of the year here (won by Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard) was a great event and I know the fans will enjoy these next two races just as much, if not more. We’re proud to have the inaugural Southern Super Series Champion crowned at the All American 400, the first weekend in November; it is such a historic event.”

Event schedules and additional information on the September 7 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco event and the 29th Annual All American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville will be finalized in the coming weeks.
